... with Bio Oil?

If so, how often/long applied before seeing any results?
TIA.

Me!!!

I have NO stretch marks from dd. Nil. Zilch. Nada. I applied Bio Oil religiously from about month 8 to a year after she was born. The stretch marks started fading when dd was about 3 monmths I think. I didn't actually notice when they disappeared completely, but my tummy was definitely scar-free on her first birthday.

As an aside, I had a very vivid scar on my arm - remnant of a burns injury when I was a child. Bio Oil has made it fade to the point of near invisibility. Considering it was vivid for 20 years, it's close to a miracle

Wow, LTTG!

So, just over a year.

How many times a day did you use it and did you apply to wet or dry skin?

Thanks for reply!

Applied it twice daily, once after my shower. So, I applied it on dry and on damp skin. Actually, I never thought about it - just applied it when I got a spare 5 minutes, which usually coincided with me changing clothes (because of milk leaks, baby drool, baby wee etc etc etc )

ShinyAndNew · 24/01/2010 00:52

If it's any use, when I used it, I left it on the shelf next to the toilet and applied it every time I needed the loo and after each shower. I didn't notice much difference in the stretch marks, other than they looked a lot better when the bio oil was still laying on the skin.

But I only used one bottle and then gave up because I felt it hadn't made a difference. I shall give another try, for longer this time.

Don't know about stretch marks, but Bio Oil definitely reduced the scarring on my granddad's knee after a replacement op and on DS's scarring after chicken pox and being scalded.

In both cases it was applied twice daily for a good few months before the scars were less noticeable. Not completely gone, but DSs scars are negligible now, whereas previously he looked like and abused child (the pox scars looked like cigarette burns to me!)!

Persevere with it!

Wuxiapian · 24/01/2010 12:21

Well, I've been using it (once) daily for 5 months and can't say as I've seen any difference in the stretchmarks.

It's gonna cost a fortuna (as I'm about 90% covered in the blighters), but I'll begin twice-daily applications!

Will need to be hawk-eyed for the special offers!

im using it prevent stretch marks in my pg. Been using it every couple of days since 12 wks. Have to say the effect they have on my confidence is just hurrendous- silly i know. Will take up the put it by the loo tip and apply more frequently. However few years ago i had some bad ones on my thighs and bio oil made them hardly visible- i used on damp skin everyday. Think you can put in the bath. I have on tried this, dont want an oily tub.

MamaGoblin · 24/01/2010 12:35

So can you start a good while after the wretched things were inflicted? Mine are horrendous and I did try Bio Oil for a while, it made no difference so I stopped buying the stuff. If I really thought I could get rid of these, I'd happily start buying it again though.

tulpe · 24/01/2010 12:42

Rosehip seed oil is excellent for scarring and stretchmarks and is 100% natural. Bio Oil contains mineral oils which aren't as good for your skin and actually sit on the skin rather than soaking into it/nourishing it.

aarghhelp · 24/01/2010 13:07

Can you use these on your face? (My skin is clear now, but I have some vestigial acne scars from way back)

tulpe · 24/01/2010 13:46

rosehip seed is definitely okay to use on the face.

Jolene2 · 26/01/2010 21:59

I used Bio oil in both pregnancies and had no stretch marks with DS1 but have stretch marks after DS2 . Perhaps they would have been worse this time if I had not used it at all?

Anyway, it definitely helped with my c section scar after DS1. Scar this time around still looks v v new even after 7 months but I've been more lax this time - even less time than before!

However, perhaps I'll switch to rosehip oil. I've used it on my face and think it works a treat so maybe I'll give it a whirl on the scar! Thanks, Tulpe!

ladylush · 27/01/2010 10:40

I used the Clarins body oil (the tonic one recommended for pregnancy) and got no stretch marks in either pregnancy. Yet I did get stretch marks as a teenager (hips and thighs) - so think I would have got them if I hadn't used the oil.

Bex80 · 27/01/2010 16:45

Once I have had another child its lipo, tumy tack and laser on my stretch marks no point now as I am goin to get fat again! I am glad to be fitting into normal clothes again so the stretch marks aint so bad! so annoying that they came in last month! I knew I should of had that C Section at 37 weeks!
Scar looks like the joker did it so next time I am going private...and its wonky.

DawnAS · 27/01/2010 18:56

Exactly like Ladylush, I used the Clarins Body Oil throughout my PG. No stretch marks at all but had them on inner thighs from when I was about 17. Felt lovely aswell putting it on in bed at night, putting it over tummy and feeling baby kicking. She liked it too!!

Purplebuns · 27/01/2010 19:06

DO NOT PUT BIO OIL IN THE BATH!
Seriously, leaves a tide/scum mark on the tub that is a right devil to get off! Learn from my experience please!

On another note I found bio oil helped ease my itchy scars whilst pregnant and helped me grow an extra skin layer in the crack which really helped.

LastTrainToGeneva · 27/01/2010 19:16

"an extra skin layer in the crack"

I'm misunderstanding the statement terribly aren't I? There is an entirely innocent explanation, isn't it?

Purplebuns · 27/01/2010 19:31

Lol! Yes I meant in the crack ...(just a bad word I think )... middle? of my stretchmark

Honestly, in RL I am forever embarassing myself like this!

allthreerolledintoone · 27/01/2010 20:03

ive heard that resue oil from the £1 shop is vewry similar worth a go at that price
