Crisis of confidence

I am a jeans and t-shirt girl. Very casual.

I have been shopping today for an outfit for tonight and have veered well off the beaten track for me. We're going to town with friends for drinks and a curry.

I loved it all in the shop but as the time to get ready approaches I am weakening and can feel the lure of my jeans.

Will I look alright in this dress with these leggings and my beloved but so far hidden under jeans boots?

I have lost a bit of weight and am now a 12 (as of the last week or so) - still heavy in the thigh region...

Thoughts?

Dress is lovely. Bet you'll look gorgeous.

Ditch the jeans!

janeite · 23/01/2010 16:59

Sorry but I don't think that dress would go with leggings or with boots. Could you wear it with opaques and black shoes? More dressy but would go better I think. The boots have a totally different 'message' to the dress and I think they'd look all wrong together.

Sorry. Congrats on weight-loss though.

Yes I agree, boots too day time and outfit too nighttime.

I would say tights and some sort of shoe affair

misshardbroom · 23/01/2010 17:25

definitely opaques and shoes rather than the boots.

dress is lovely though, hope you have a good night out.

miche8 · 23/01/2010 17:25

the boots are too casual to go with that dress, you need tights and a heel either boots or shoes or maybe shoe boots.

kissmummy · 23/01/2010 18:25

absolutely agree with other posters. i was quite surprised when i saw the boots which are a real contrast to the dress. I wouldn't wear leggings under a dress like that - it's a dress rather than a tunic. Black opaque tights (40 denier) do pretty much the same job. Do you have any other footwear options that you can show us?

PoppityPing · 23/01/2010 18:35

Agree, it'll look a bit goth- fine if tht's the look you want.

If it has to be boots, you need some with heels.

BelleDameSansMerci · 23/01/2010 18:40

Actually, I quite like the idea of the dress with leggings and boots. It dresses it down very well. It's not a look I could do but I think it depends how tall you are?

tulpe · 23/01/2010 18:56

dress would work with black leggings and heels. But otherwise definitely opaques & heels.

vesela · 24/01/2010 09:14

I also think it would be fine with the boots, although ideally the boots would be a bit more streamlined. I don't think you need to wear heels with this, especially on this occasion - I think heels would be too much.

TreeTrunkThighs · 24/01/2010 19:39

Thank you, all. I am inclined to agree that the boots and the dress are a bit of a mismatch BUT I went out in them anyway as it was that or jeans. DH loved it! And I did feel good.

I'll be wearing the dress again to go to a hen do in Scotland soon and will be a braver and go for tights and heels.
