Have you tried Monsoon? Their dresses are very pretty.

I think the Debenhams ones were the nicest I have seen recently - and the designer-y ones were all on offer - hence dd got two (and I am a tight arse economical)

have a look, bridesmaid and lovely dark red
otherwise, monsoon?

MattSmithIsNotMyLoveSlave · 20/01/2010 23:57

If she's not an official bridesmaid I'd steer clear of white/cream/ivory.

Some possibilities from Monsoon:
Olene (blue)
Olene (lilac)
Waterfall tulle
Juliette
Nina
Vintage beaded

Others:
More OTT

p.s. lots of bargains at bhs but some of them seem quite "old" for her age imho.

depending on budget, John Lewis party dresses or bridesmaid dresses

gigglewitch · 21/01/2010 00:02

And fwiw, I agree with matt that if she's not a bridesmaid you need to keep well away from the "traditional" bridesmaid-y look and cream stuff.

lucykate · 21/01/2010 00:04

wow, thank for the link to just dresses!, some lovely dresses there in the flowergirl section, will forward that link on to the bride for her to see for the official bridesmaids.

i'm pretty sure the colour for the day is pink, but dd is more of a blue/turquoise kind of girl!

I ordered a white bridesmaid's dress for DD last year from justdresses - made by JDBC, as far as I remember - and while the shape was beautiful and it did look sweet, the material was fairly artificial-looking - more so than in the picture and compared to the other bridesmaids' dresses, which were very similar in style but were made of better-quality material (DD was a late addition to the team!)

lucykate · 21/01/2010 11:17

that's useful to know about the quality, have shown dd this morning and these are the 2 she likes so far, both from next,

vintage looking dress

pink one which would be a more practical buy as i can see her getting more wear out of this one.

I love the pink one!

pinkhousesarebest · 21/01/2010 13:12

pinkhousesarebest · 21/01/2010 13:13

Why does it never work?

Katherine329 · 21/01/2010 20:39

"I love gorgeous" has beautiful dresses. On the expensive side so I've only bought sale items before. Sale on just now though. See what you think www.ilovegorgeous.co.uk/the-range.irc

MattSmithIsNotMyLoveSlave · 21/01/2010 21:44

I have ordered non-bridesmaids' dresses from Just Dresses, though, and the quality has been excellent. I suspect it comes down to the manufacturer rather than the site...

MattSmithIsNotMyLoveSlave · 21/01/2010 21:46

pinkhousesarebest -- this one?

pinkhousesarebest · 22/01/2010 11:47

Yes, I thought it was gorgeous.

tisntme · 23/01/2010 00:33

lucykate, the links show jeans on mine?

lucykate · 23/01/2010 08:59

that's weird, they def worked the other day! try again!

this is the pink one

MattSmith - yes, I was only talking about the bridesmaids' dresses. The other ones they have are made by people like Cupcake and are probably fantastic (have often felt like ordering stacks of them!)

Thinking about it, I wouldn't say the bridesmaids' dress was bad quality, just that the material was fairly synthetic-looking - but this could be the same with dresses from e.g. Debenhams. I was comparing it with dresses that were probably from a wedding shop and considerably more expensive. DD's was a bargain and she did look lovely!

(NB though - it came with a pink sash that needed to be replaced with a different colour, and that turned out to be quite difficult for the dressmaker apparently, because I think the sash was sewn into the waist seam).
