But why?

CrossAunt · 20/01/2010 12:53

because i cannot find one that doesn't:

a)smudge under my eyes by the end of the day

b)make little black floaters in my eyes by the end of the day

c)actually all come off at the end of the day so i don't wake up the next morning looking like a panda

see, i have thought this through

I just buy the cheapest mascara I can find.

I hate hate hate all that lash extending volumising crap. The fibres fall off and end up floating aoruind my eyes, until I get pissed off and pull it all off, including half my eyelashes.

My eyelashes are crap and blonde though, I can't be arsed with dying them so I use Collection 2000 or other el cheapo bran's version of waterproof mascara.

Tried Dior Show once and it made me look like I had dead spiders on my eyelids, urgh.

CrossAunt · 20/01/2010 12:58

i am blessed with quite long thick lashes anyway but have specs which make my eyes look tiny

extra volumising cheryl cole special type mascaras leave marks on my glasses

natural collection £1.99 clear mascara - NO-ONE else did it!

boots do a clear one .
i think dye eylashes + clear mascara is ok for everyday, great if youve little time in the mornings.

CrossAunt · 20/01/2010 13:10

i am scared of dying eyelashes - is it hard?

OP posts:
Hopefully · 20/01/2010 13:24

Ahhhhh. I thought perhaps you'd developed some interesting religious aversion to mascara.

I just use whatever Max Factor one is nearest to hand when I go to Boots, but I don't use that much, so find flaking etc isn't much of a problem (have reasonable eyelashes, although nothing compared to your spider legs!)

drloves8 · 20/01/2010 13:33

its a bit fiddely tbh, the best idea is to go to a salon and watch how its done first. you can get kits for under £10 and it should last for 4-6 weeks.

drloves8 · 20/01/2010 13:36

if you have dark eyelashes anyway the best thing is an eyelash perm ! it curls the lashes so it looks like you have mascara on. you have to go to a salon for that. dont think you can do it at home.
sometimes colleges need models for trainee beautitions to practice on - theyd do a eyelash dye/ eyebrow tidy/ect much cheaper btw!

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 13:37

go and have an eyelash perm and a tint and then you won't need mascara

tartyhighheels · 20/01/2010 13:43

Oh my goodness, I got nervous just reading your post. I just could not do that. I do dye my lashes(and brows because its all gone lighter as i have become more elderly) and actually they are quite long but more is more and I am leaning towards the cheryle cole school of lash rather and clear and curled. But I am a bit tarty and inappropriate though (just ask my children) and love a bit of slap so don't listen to me

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 13:49

I can vouch for the wonderous thing that is an eyelash perm, especially in conjunction with a tint!

onlyjoinedforoffers · 20/01/2010 13:52

i got my eyelashes dyed once it stung like hell and my eyes looked weird the rest of the day my eyelashes were nice though i am using Max Factor 5000 calories mascara just now and it is very flaky clear mascara was all the rage a few years ago i thought it was awful like lip gloss on your eyelashes use Vaseline just as good

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 13:55

Full stops, please, only!!!

It can sometimes sting - it depends on how good the therapist is. Some of them manage to wash the dye off without it going into your eyes. But it's only very temporary - and being a contact lens wearer, I'm always very cautious about anything going near my eyes.

wubblybubbly · 20/01/2010 13:58

I want whatever Dale Winton uses.

CrossAunt · 20/01/2010 14:44

an eyelash perm???!!! i did not know there was such a thing!

i will have to investigate this...

many times in the past i have also put mascara on without thinking and then gone swimming...not a good look...

Not all beauty places do eyelash perming - I think it's fairly specialist. But if they don't, they usually know a place that will.

GeneHuntsMistress · 20/01/2010 17:43

it IS hard to find clear mascara these days - i have always used it on my eyebrows! perfect for combing through and fixing them into place. oooh i sound like i have right old Denis Healys but they're not at all.

anyhooo, i have done the old eyelash tint at home many times in the past, usually before going on hols. i don't find it makes THAT much difference (and i have very fair lashes) - it's nice enough but i wouldn't be too happy paying salon prices with the results i see for myself.

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 17:50

Maybe you'd get better results in a salon though? It makes an incredible difference to my eyelashes.

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 17:51

Hard to find clear mascara? Boots have been doing it for years!
Vaseline is just as good and much cheaper.

Bumperlicious · 20/01/2010 18:07

I have had an eye lash perm and it did absolutely nowt for me. However if you are fed up with smudges and not coming off I really recommend Clinque um Lash Power I think, it only comes off with warm water, and doesn't smudge at all, it more flakes (if at all, mine is just flaking a bit as it is old). I love it and before I discovered it I didn't wear mascara for years as I couldn't bear panda eyes and having to scrub it off at the end of the day.

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 18:41

How could it have done nothing for you?! After a tint and perm I look like I'm channeling Elizabeth Taylor!

(in a good way, of course)

darkandstormy · 20/01/2010 18:46

I was only just admiring my friends beautiful lashes this weekend, she told me down to clear mascara. How much does an eyelash perm cost.

badgermonkey · 20/01/2010 18:52

I get Boots Natural Collection clear mascara for my eyebrows - it's dirt cheap.

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 18:53

Sorry - I can't remember - I just hand over my card!
