Weekend in Paris - stylish capsule wardrobe

monkeysmama · 19/01/2010 22:27

Off to Paris in 2 weeks with mum, sister and 20mo dd for 3 nights. I have lots of clothes, indeed I love clothes but feel really unpolished atm and need some help.

I imagine we'll spend most days strolling with long lunches, a trip to a gallery/museum and a park then dinner in evening. What would you suggest I take?

TIA

hello mm!!

oooh, exciting, this is your sister's b'day present, right?

I did this in 2008, my first night out (we went to Paris for my friend's party) since having dc2 and losing my baby flab.

I took:

skinny jeans
a handful of plain & striped l/s tees (cliche!! but worked)
a black fitted tux-style jacket
ballet flats
Louboutin heels
a silk blousey top thing

that was it!!

LetThemEatCake · 19/01/2010 22:39

oooh, and a scarf for discreet bfing - look in my pics, there's one of dc2 in red tshirt in paris - you can just see my scarf and jacket look!! I worried about the scarf thing (cliche again) but my friend (Parisienne) does it daily - skinny jeans, jacket, tee, scarf. Same by night but with Miu Miu heels

Have a great time !!!!
I went a couple of months ago and also wore skinny jeans for nearly the whole time.
But I think Paris will still be pretty cold, so I would take a nice coat and some flat boots instead of ballet flats.

LetThemEatCake · 19/01/2010 22:57

good point .. we were there in May, not feb.

monkeysmama · 19/01/2010 22:58

Thanks. Yes LTEC- well remembered. Any jacket suggestions? I have loads of blazers but need to get a new spring jacket anyway. Though as FO suggests, may be chilly enough for a proper coat? In which case do I take my long black puffa coat or my black trench or my Max Mara long coat.

I've never found any ballet flats I find comfortable! I was wondering about weather & if I should take my flat black boots for day & studded shoeboots for evening?

My mind isn't engaging properly atm so I didn't think of lsleeve tshirts but great idea.

I need some help to start looking well, polished is the only word I can think of, again. For the past few months I haven't looked like I'd have liked in my outfits.

Thanks for the suggestions!

MM

its tricky sint it as you get hot traispsing around ime.
adn potential for sore feet

Feelingoptimistic · 20/01/2010 10:29

MM - that sounds perfect - Max Mara coat, black boots - nothing worse than being cold when you are walking around

DecorHate · 20/01/2010 10:38

Yes definitely need coat and comfortable footwear - and then tbh you don't need to worry so much about what you wear underneath ( as I often say on S&B threads)

Thin layers for underneath, eg long-sleeved tops & cardis, Big enough bag to put your cardi in if you get hot. Jaunty scarves

Do they wear colour in France? i've only ever stayed in the south of france but i noticed that the french didn't wear any colour, we stuck out like a sore thumb, it was aug/sept so the kids were kitted out in bright boden and me not so bright but still lots of colour. Would like a weekend in Paris but may need to re-think my wardrobe.

Mimi1977 · 20/01/2010 17:17

Love your jacket LTEC - where did you get it from? I'm rubbish at packing light!

LetThemEatCake · 20/01/2010 17:33

from Zara, a gazillion years ago! well, 2003/4 ... it's served me well. was only about £50 iirc

monkeysmama · 20/01/2010 17:40

I don't wear any colour anyway so should be fine. Unless grey counts as a colour?

Navy, taupe, white. What do you mean no colour?

Mimi1977 · 21/01/2010 11:05

Will have to check it out, Zara do seem to do fab jackets. Thanks

carciofi · 21/01/2010 14:06

I wore a bright pink coat last time I was in Paris, I felt like a five year old the whole time! Next time I go, I am adopting LTEC's much cooler look.

Have a great time, MM.

monkeysmama · 21/01/2010 14:19

Thanks Carciofi. I think my trip calls for a new jacket.
