Omg, it could have been me that posted this!!!

Feel exactly the same, so bumping for advice!

BigTillyMint · 17/01/2010 18:53

I am 5'8 and was 9 stone over 10 years ago, pre-DC, but am now 10 stone and 10.5

How long is it since you were 9 stone and have you just had a child?

BigTillyMint · 17/01/2010 18:53

Between 10 stone and 10.5

bellissima · 17/01/2010 18:54

Well - one useful thing I once read is that we tend to eat the same volume/bulk of food every day. The trick is to lower the calorie content of that volume without feeling too hungry. For post Christmas reductions I have fruit porridge for breakfast (more interesting than plain), soup, toast and low fat yoghurt for lunch and meat or fish with lots and lots of vegetables for dinner. Snacks inbetween are the dreaded rice cakes and apples. Boring, but it does work. Other general tips - always have plain boiled rice - fried/pilau has a million more calories and who can tell the difference under a good curry. Oh and the skin of a chicken has as many calories as the meat...and almond croissants have over 700 (sob)...and Pizza Express salads can have more than a pizza...

sowhatitsonlysnow · 17/01/2010 18:55

I'm 5'8 and used to be 10 - 10.5 stone...now 11.5, but age is catching upon me

bellissima · 17/01/2010 18:57

And I never have lattes - just good old coffee with a bit of milk.

But I do have fish and chips every so often! Some things are sacred.

Romanarama · 17/01/2010 19:03

My experience, not personal, but of dh, is that eating masses of salad works. I have become very creative with salad as he wants to eat it all the time. I agree that it's prob a volume thing. I suppose you'd want not to put much oil on - he doesn't put any on his and I dress mine separately.

DecorHate · 17/01/2010 19:11

Tbh 10.5 stone sounds perfectly fine to me (I am an inch shorter and if I was less than 10 stone I would be too thin). If your weight stays at that I really wouldn't stress too much but I am absolutely not a dieting sort of person. I was a bit worried last year that I wouldn't fit into a size 10 dress I had to wear for a special occasion (the 12 was too big, the 10 was snug...) so I cut out chocolate, biscuits & wine for a couple of weeks beforehand and it fitted easily. Wouldn't want to give those things up permanently though!

And IMO it's easier to exercise, eat salads, etc in the summer

BigTillyMint · 17/01/2010 19:26

Sowhat, age is catching up on me too!

I am about a dress size bigger than I was at 9 stone, but do plenty of exercise, so am fairly toned

Cyb · 17/01/2010 19:28

I', 5 ft 9 and 11.7...hate it..I need to be in the right frame of mind to begin cutting back adn I'm not quite there atm

notyummy · 17/01/2010 19:35

Cut out the booze

Exercise - pilates, circuits training and running.

It has to hurt frankly, or you are just kidding yourself.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 17/01/2010 19:40

cyb - I'm with you

sowhatitsonlysnow · 17/01/2010 19:42

notyummy - I know I must cut the booze....I'll just finish the last glass in the bottle tonight and promise it's going to be a wine free week.....well until Thu at least

Cyb · 17/01/2010 19:45

It's not booze with me, never has been. IT'S PURE GREED

MollyRoger · 17/01/2010 19:54

I just did bmi calculator and apparently I am slightly underweight. But have gone from size 8 to size 12, all my clothes look wrong, everything feels wobbly and it is ALL on my arse and thighs.
Am 5ft 6 and 9st 4lbs. I stopped smoking almost a year ago and I cannot stop eating now

sowhatitsonlysnow · 17/01/2010 19:57

5'6 and 9stone 4 sounds ideal to me

darkandstormy · 18/01/2010 14:25

Bellisima that food agenda of yours sounds good I will give that a whirl adding some power walking oh and no wine...

I am 5ft 9 and weigh 9 stone. having recently got back there after having my 3rd dc. I lost 2.5 to 3 stone in about 8.5 months. I did it solely by counting calories. I had 2000 t200 cals a day as am breastfeeding (that in itself burns about 300-500 cals a day). So if you are not breastfeeding, if you stick to no more than 1700-1800 calories a day then the weight will come off. If you go to the gym then the loss will be faster.

Calorie counting is the best way to lose weight as no food is banned and therefore you are less likely to 'fall off' and break your diet. If you want choc, fine. Crisps, fine. Wine, fine. just count the calories into your daily allowance and no harm done.

Good luck!!

TheRomanceOfItAll · 18/01/2010 15:40

Post is meant to say i had 2000 to 2200 cals a day when aiming to lose weight.

darkandstormy · 18/01/2010 16:12

the romanceofitall I agree calorie counting being sensible and realistic therefore will not feel deprived. congratulations you have done really well to get back to nine stone after 3dc well done

Thank you! It is very nice being able to fit back into all my favourite clothes. I am sure that you wil get the extra bit of weight off if you calorie count. For e.g, saturday night can still be nice. Just have a light lunch therefore saving calories for some wine and a curry in the evening. Also spirits have only 50 cals a shot so gin and slimline tonic could defo be the way forward for you!

Ronaldinhio · 18/01/2010 17:34

ok I know that this is against all dieting laws but this is what i do

eat fruit for breakfast
normal lunch and dinner

no wine move to spirits and soda/diet or better still no booze at all

weight comes off pretty easily

sowhatitsonlysnow · 18/01/2010 20:00

I clearly need to move on to the gin & diet tonic, that can't be too much hardship surely
