Anyone interested in forming a "shop more wisely and less compulsively", "no more expensive mistakes" and "make the most of what you already own" thread?

There seems to have been a digression from the original intention of Penth's very worthy thread so, rather than cause anyone any offence or detract from what Penth and others were setting out to achieve, would anyone like to do a thread in a similar vein? Discussing potential purchases (advising each other for/ against in sensible fashion!!) and talking about how we're wearing existing pieces etc

Am off to Sunday lunch with friends but will check back in later.

Wearing purple Tam Tam dress, grey opaques, grey slouch suede boots, charcoal travelwrap for discreet bfing. Pretty exited about the sunshine so nearly cracked out the new OP sunnies but am saving for summer proper

have a good day all

MM that jacket is divine. I'd be buying it like a shot if I had the money. DH is already buying me ghd straighteners for Valentine's Day, so can't honestly drop any more hints for expensive gifts

I have a question for the S&B gurus. I bought this Boden skirt off Ebay and am wondering what colour/style of top would go with it. The obvious is a black tee. but I wear so much black (either as an under-layer or by itself) that I want to go away from it for once.

I'm going shopping for a gift for SIL on Sunday and will probably buy some adds and sods for myself, so there's an opportunity for me to get something suitable if it's not already in my wardrobe.

Thanks in advance

Hands up whose entered the netaporter competition to win a £25k shopping spree.

traceybath · 22/01/2010 18:24

And thanks for the code carciofi - sweet daisy dress for dd I'll be purchasing soon.

hellsbelles · 22/01/2010 19:27

LTEC - S&B meet up - I'm breaking into a cold sweat already under the pressure. We'll have to agree to all wear our Tam Tam dresses and travel wraps

Actually a summer meet up is a great idea as by then I will be slim - let's try and do it.

Tracey - I haven't done the comp yet - but will do for sure. I've got that VW dress that you keep linking to in my basket and am trying desperately not to order

Mimi1977 · 22/01/2010 19:55

Seen the tam tam dress on ASOS - love it. Desperately trying to get more casual dresses as just live in my jeans at the moment. Hows the sizing work out - there is a 10 in grey and a 12 in purple. Depends which shop as to which size I go for.

LTEC is it you who has this dress? Sure someone does.

LetThemEatCake · 22/01/2010 20:22

yes, I have 2!! both 12, both a bit big around the top (am very flat chested, despite bfing...) so if you have more bust than me, I'd go for the 12. The purple is a lovely shade, too. Alternatively - do what I did, order them both. Their returns processing is v.good.

No - not very well endowed in that area. My ass on the other hand....! Thanks

I got the purple tamtam dress in the sale and thought the sizing was quite generous. the 10 was fine on me and i have 32G norks so often have to size up. its quite a low neck though

mrsjuan · 22/01/2010 21:42

I need to see this famous tam tam dress. All I can find when I search for it is underwear!

I'm going the Trafford centre with a friend tomorrow - DH is babysitting so I'm very excited as I'll be able to actually try things on and negotiate the shops without a pushchair.

Think I'll just concentrate on jeans and underwear for now and wait until I've had my colour consultation and seen some more ideas on here before branching out any more.

hellsbelles · 22/01/2010 21:45

mrsjaun princesse tam tam

mrsjuan · 22/01/2010 21:56

Oh yes that is nice.

I have to ask though - do you all spend ages on laundry?

Most of the lovely clothes you lot are linking to are either handwash or dry clean. I only just keep up with the washing and ironing as it is

LetThemEatCake · 22/01/2010 22:10

the delicates cycle (and a pillowcase) is my best friend.

That and the nice chap at the dry cleaner's!!

can I join??

I'm hopeless in buying clothes for my self!! Never ever find anything that'll fit me right (often find that what I like is not very uhmmm my age (35 y) and to much like something my almost 16 y DD would wear )... or... I don't think it's right to SPEND money on me... AND I'm a sahm and therefore live in jeans and t-shirts... (thank the lord for H&M,Matalan and Primark! )
Always thinking about something else that needs to be paid for. My DH is always asking my to please stop thinking like this, but I can't help it..
when I end up buying something for my self I usually feel really bad about spending the money (how crazy am I??)

LetThemEatCake · 22/01/2010 22:18

anyone there ?have been contemplating Breton style top for SS10 but that nautical thing is not quite right for me however I do love a stripe, so what do we think of this?

OP posts:
VerityBrulee · 22/01/2010 22:40

I was just looking at the same one!

I have multiple stripey tees in various widths of stipe, but I like that one a lot.

A good buy I'd say. how was the workout?

I have tried that TOAST top on - is v nice. Nice fine jersey/wool blend.
Comes up quite small iirc
hth

how annoying, was just pootling about on the uniqlo site and there were 2 long down puffas left in a size S, brown and olive for the measly sum of £19.99 each - put both in basket (only want one but couldn't decide on colour) and when tried to check out it wouldn't let me and now they have disappeared from site......gggggrrrrrrrr
contemplating a trip to uniqlo tomorrow to see if any left in store....maybe.....not sure if can be bothered?

has anyone tried the sass & bide black rats leggings?

I have probably put on 4 stone in the last week, have been mainlning chocolate due to horrendous PMS, which has also caused curious compulsion to purchase cashmere Pink boyfriend-ish cardigan and pink scarf in last 5 days, tut tut.

I think the aubergine would suit you.

eshermummy · 22/01/2010 23:13

pleez, tell me everything about this garment...

monkeysmama · 22/01/2010 23:19

Yes LTEC, please tell us all about them. I'm watching with interest.

I like the Toast top but blue one. I'd like a Breton style top but they do nothing for me. Odd as my sister is more or less identical & she looks great in them.

LetThemEatCake · 22/01/2010 23:29

ahem.

They're Australian. What more do you need to know?

They lengthen your legs, hold 'em in, make 'em look fab and sexy and just un peu slutty

and my legs are not my best feature, other than being long.

VB - big hugs. PMT, ugh. It's been a long time (would you believe I have had only 5 periods in the last 5 years????) but not long enough to forget that feeling. Channeling it into cashmere purchases sounds totally reasonable imo, esp pink ones. Did you see my new pink summer bag?
