Why do you need a skirt? (just being nosey)

I tended to buy trouser suits from the places you mention, so not sure where else.

Austin Reed have a good sale on at the moment, with quite a few jackets at under £100 and skirts of all kinds from £27 upwards so worth a look if your budget is £200.

Try somewhere like John Lewis or House of Fraser if there's one near you, perhaps, so you get a range of options nad hopefully can find something good.

Also Hobbs sale - you have to hunt a bit but I found for example that the Glen jacket and skirt were both in the sale for a total of just over £100.

I've never bought anything from Hobbs, but trying ot think of shops with a choice of skirt suits for you.

Audley jacket & wrap skirt from Hobbs, £150 in total.

Sorry can't link to individual items at Hobbs website but maybe worth going in there to try on in real life?

cool, thanks NC, will revisit AR. Personally I think trousers are too masculine. Will try Hobbs (never been before), JL a more distant possibility.

Can you believe, got the job after the interview in the not-current Tesco suit ().

Have you been to Banana Republic? They make lovely suits.

I second Hobbs. You said that Austin Reed were too expensive but their sale items are quite good and you could get a suit for under £200, I reckon.

Nightcat - did you manage to get to the shops at all? Just wondering if you tried anything on/found anything suitable?
