Denim skirt advice for a thirtysomething

sleepsforwimps · 14/01/2010 08:42

What would be the most flattering style/length/colour of denim skirt for someone in their mid 30's? (size 10, 5"6 if that helps too). I am thinking this is the best way to wean myself off of jeans and onto skirts.

knee lenght likethis but it's cord not denim

or something a bit more A line

brimfull · 14/01/2010 08:48

this shape, again not denim but nice

Beachcomber · 14/01/2010 08:53

I have a very nice wraparound denim skirt that is slightly A line and a bit above the knee that I always feel nice in.

sleepsforwimps · 14/01/2010 09:12

I think I like the look of A line, maybe a bit longer than those two skirts though, something in my head screaming 'they're too short!' Beachcomber I like the idea of a wraparound denim skirt, where did you get yours from?

Have you got good legs?

TrillianAstra · 14/01/2010 10:31

Is ABetaDad around?

If you have medium-to-good legs go for a denim mini (above the knee at the very least) with thick thick tights and boots. You can move around more easily than in a knee-length skirt and have less chance of descent into frumpdom. You're 30-something not 50.

MissWooWoo · 14/01/2010 10:38

at 5'6 and a size 10 you could get away with something short if you're that way inclined. If you prefer something a bit more demure see this thread here

Just don't go below the knee

Beachcomber · 14/01/2010 12:33

I think it came from H and M but it was a while ago that I bought it.

RolandButter · 14/01/2010 12:34

rofl at TA

Longtalljosie · 14/01/2010 13:44

I'm agreeing with Trillian. Why on earth do you feel the need to wean yourself off jeans?

sleepsforwimps · 14/01/2010 22:33

I do not want to end up in Frumpdom okay I shall reconsider the length skirt suggested as I do have okay legs. I think I've just lost my confidence in showing off my bodyparts since having children. I used to feel very comfortable in my body and in clothes, now I don't feel comfortable in the same clothes as pre kids. I don't know if it's because I'm few years older and feel I should be dressing a bit differently.. or because I want to cover up bits that I don't feel confident about. I really want to dress more girly, hence the attempt to have a change from jeans. I used to love wearing skirts, trying to find the old me again, but an update of the old me.

lol @ trill

where is ABD, by the way....

bunnymother · 14/01/2010 22:49

Sounds like you should def get the legs out. Short A line denim mini or black wool skirt w black opaque tights and ballet flats or knee high flat boots sounds like just the ticket. If you don't do a mini, I think the best other length is just below the knee (but I think that works better in other fabrics - think pencil skirt a la foxy secretary look). Happy shopping!

hf128219 · 14/01/2010 22:52

As already said depends on your legs! I wear one about half way between my knees and bottom.

moondog · 14/01/2010 22:54

You sound as if you have a good figure.Flash yer pins but yeGads, don't buy a long one or i will shoot you.
Personally.
Nothing screams 'middle aged dreary frump with no oomph' like a long denim skirt.

Fleecy · 14/01/2010 22:59

Go short, please! If you're not confident, wear leggings and boots underneath - it'll look like tights but feel more substantial to you.

Jumper dresses and tights are a good way to wean yourself off jeans without going smart.

bunnymother · 14/01/2010 23:00

Oh, and wear boy briefs under your mini. It's a bit cold just to brave it in a thong and tights...
