Have flirted with buying this product for 12 years, in the end did, I might as well have put on E45. Tell what the big deal is and what am I doing wrong. Im 45 non smoker.

you are right
its shit
buy some witch hazel from the chemist instead

theyoungvisiter · 13/01/2010 14:22

I hate it. It makes my face itch and puff up so it's obviously got some active ingredient.

I'd say it's more like applying cream scouring bleach. But it's still crap.

Weirdly though, people keep giving it to me. I have several carrier bagfuls of clarins stuff. Do you think I look haggard?

LaurieFairyCake · 13/01/2010 14:24

It works for me, much like a primer does. I wear it under Vitalumiere and it definitely makes my skin look less pore-y and smoother.

I have no skin issues though.

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 13/01/2010 14:24

well, it does work after a fashion. General improvement/tightening effect.
Not the miracle it says on the tin though.

brimfull · 13/01/2010 14:25

I like it
I look 10 yrs younger with it on

Ronaldinhio · 13/01/2010 15:24

it's crap
a thick covering of eight hour cream and some bandages would work better

grammar · 13/01/2010 19:10

Thanks for the comments, really pleased ggirl that it worked for you. Maybe I'll not even buy anything and try water on my face ( sorry, just re-read that and sounds like 'smug bastard,' not smug, really not, am not that attractive, drink too much(yes i've been on all the alcohol threads) and am just superficial enough to want to kid people that i'm fit/ healthy and more beautiful than the screwed-up morning face that I am.

I like it very much. Makes a real difference to my face.

horses for courses and all that.....

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 13/01/2010 19:32

I am a recent convert and really like it. It sort of tightens everything and gives me a bit of a glow that I certainly don't have naturally.

Ronaldinhio · 13/01/2010 23:00

nope, does absolutely nothing for me either tho have friends who swear by it.

I have found some other things that brighten things up a bit - all silicone-loaded primer type products so not exactly the same as beauty flash balm - they are estee lauder idealist, clarins instant smooth, and best chanel le blanc de chanel which was limited edition but they bring it out every so often.

put them on over moisturiser and skin looks less blotchy pores reduced etc etc.

mind you I am currently revelling because have realised that normally in this weather my skin would have gone hideous yet it seems to be fine - not entirely sure what it is but suspect the fancy neal's yard moisturiser dh put in my christmas stocking

Floopy21 · 14/01/2010 09:31

Do you put the Clarins flash thing over moisturiser?

carciofi · 14/01/2010 09:41

I was told to mix a bit of the Flash balm with your moisturiser. It did nothing for me, so I'm glad I got it as a sample and didn't buy it.

aquavit · 14/01/2010 09:56

floopy iirc you are supposed to put it on underneath moisturiser but perhaps someone who actually finds it does something should answer you! it's either under or over anyway, not instead

also the instructions are very bossy about not rubbing it in too much I think

MrsMattie · 14/01/2010 10:24

Really disliked it when I finally caved in and bought some a few years ago. made my skin sting and feel weird.

largeginandtonic · 14/01/2010 10:32

Mine mixes weirdly with the Vitalumiere.

It leaves a weird residue on my face. Very annoying as i like both products but can't use them together.

Bettymum · 14/01/2010 11:38

I just bought a 30ml bottle on ebay as I'm looking pale and haggard and need something to perk me up a bit. Interested to see if it does me any good...
I used to love all the Origins stuff but too skint to buy it now .

CatIsSleepy · 14/01/2010 11:44

oh i like it
makes me look a little more human first thing in the morning
or at least I think it does, which is good enough for me
i never buy it mind, always ask for it for xmas or birthday

it doesn't work miracles though-none of these things do...

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 14/01/2010 16:23

I put it on over moisturiser and only use a tiny bit.

Ronaldinhio · 14/01/2010 16:28

when I was ill I used prescriptives magic under my foundation and it gave a semblence of life back to my skin

DarrellRivers · 14/01/2010 16:33

oh yes, this is another thing i should buy
Tried it as a sample many years ago and loved it, but was mid 20s and so probably no need of it then
Shall go and look on ebay
I'm on a roll

HinnyPet · 14/01/2010 16:44

Ah.. the secret to Clarins Flash Balm is not to rub it in.

You don't even pat it on , you smooth it on and apply makeup immediately, brilliant stuff i think.

Mixing it with moisturiser defeats the tightening objective, however if you wear it alone, without moisturiser, smooth it on and don't rub in you'd be amazed at how tight your skin gets.

Floopy21 · 15/01/2010 09:32

I used it (the bottle I'd been brought 6 months ago) for the first time today - I like it! No tightening effects, but it's made me a bit 'glowey' (sp?) glowy? I guess it doesn't matter as it's not a real word. Thanks ladies, it would have languished without you.
