are they really that good and which ones should i get.

i feel really miserable, i am a little over weight although im not huge im very lumpy and bumpy i have rolls and its horrible, I cant wear anything even slightly figure hugging.

Im guessing spanx dont make you need smaller clothes but do they improve your shape at all?

I got a pair soon after having DS2 and they did make a big difference to how nicely my clothes sat round the belly area. They are no substitute for losing weight though, if you need to.

I find them quite uncomfortable but they do make a difference. I have some knicker ones which reach up to under my bra and they're the best. I also have a slip one but it hurts my rib cage and makes my boobs go all funny and kind of pour upwards over the top.

Go somewhere you can try them on (M&S do them) to at least get an idea of how they feel. Make sure you're not in a rush or feeling flustered. Then maybe get them on line. Others may know more about the other brands to go for than me. Gok Wan has started doing some which I've heard good things about.

Oh yes they work! As I discovered when my sister came to babysit and asked me "are you wearing Spanx" as we left. She had noticed a distinct difference in my bum!

I got mine from John Lewis, they're the style that go very high on your torso and low on your thighs. I think they would probably go almost all the way to your bra, but I have a long body so they are shorter on me.

I've tried several different types of round-em-up-and-head-em-north knickers, and the Spanx are the most comfortable and most effective as they don't role down over my fat belly. Plus, they're designed so that you can have a wee without takign them down - if you're careful.

Mine are Magic Knickers which I got a few years ago in House Of Fraser.

They work well, but I find them constricting around the waist, so only use them for a special night out.

They do vastly lift the derrière, I find!

Liking the sound of Spanx - maybe I'll upgrade!

They do work - as much by smoothing lines as squashing in I think. I have a pair of the mid thigh to under boob variety! The Spanx are apparently more comfy than the Trinny & Susannah magic pants which according to several friends of mine and a sales lady in John Lewis are like being tortured.

ellliebelle · 11/01/2010 21:28

candles that sounds interesting having a wee without taking them down lol

historian I have joined the gym and am definately trying to loose weight but would like something to make me feel a little better in the mean time , plus i also have a couple of events coming up where i would like to dress up a bit but feel uncomfortable with myself

wasabi i have tried magic knickers before they were so uncomfortable in the fitting room that i didn't bother buying them, but i saw on here that spanx are supposedly comfy so thought i might give them a try

I finally bought Spanx after three other types of magic knickers, all of which either chafed somewhere or gave me bad indigestion or still left some unsightly roles on show somewhere.

Spanx (the under boob to mid-thigh variety) were an epiphany - they are comfy, don't fall down, and keep the wobbly bits firm. I find they are great under dresses, especially.
