I'm a 'curvy' 5' 2" (size 12 I think, if I am honest), could I get away with a nice pair of slim leg trousers (black) as an alternative to skinny jeans for a night out?

Yes, better than wide.

As a general rule if you're short then slim fitting things much better.

What are you planning on wearing with them though - black trousers can look a little officey.

Yes as long as you ensure they are long enough.

Also, be careful about fabric in order to avoid the "office" look. H&M have some fab straight leg black trousers in at the moment for £15 which look like black jeans but are much nicer, dressier fabric. I am short of leg and have lots of compliments wearing these

of course.

worn with a nice pair of heels you'd look a treat
