sort out my daily beauty routine

I'm sure this has probably been done before, but please humour me as I'm new to S&B, having lurked for a good 12 months before posting!

What is your regular day to day beauty routine? I have a horrible feeling that I'm fiddling while Rome burns, i.e. slapping on loads of makeup while the rest of me goes to rack & ruin. My New Year's resolution is to sort it out and develop the beauty routine of a proper grown up laydeee and not a student / sleep deprived zombie mummy.

So it's currently like this:

Morning: shower, usually shave armpits, otherwise just washing for hygiene with Soap&Glory Clean on Me showergel. Teeth, obviously, contact lenses. Take off yesterday's mascara and give face a quick whiz over with teenager's cleanser as have crappy skin, bit of moisturiser. Deodorant & either S&G bodyspray or posh perfume. Full face of slap, even at weekends.

Night: lenses out, teeth brushed.

Moisturise body - never.
Exfoliate body - last done in 2007.
Legs & bikini line - virtually never, until driven to lock myself in bathroom for hours to deforest.
Face scrub (Aapri microdermabrasion stuff), once or twice a week.
Mani / pedi - painted nails at Christmas for first time in easily 6 months.
Hair washed & blow dried (by me) about every 5 days with an in-between tarting up with Batiste dry shampoo and hot brush. Professionally cut & coloured maybe 3 times a year.

I bought the Soap&Glory version of the Liz Earle hot polishing cloth stuff at the weekend so have been making a concerted effort to use that at night, but only 3 days into new regime!

Can you tell me what you do, and also what you think I should be doing? (Bearing in mind I have next to no patience, time, or money).

This is my routine. I suspect the way I do things isn't the usual way, but anyway.....

Morning : Shower, but not necessarily every day. Days I don't shower I wash my underarms, bottom (over the toilet) and face. Moisturiser every day on face and body. Make up of mascara and lip gloss only if I'm going out, lip balm if I'm staying home.

Evening : Daily shower, lingering in the hot water followed by moisturiser and blow dry.

Night : Oil Cleanse Method every third night. I always put night cream and hand cream before bed.

Once a week I give myself a head massage with vitamin E oil for about 15 minutes. It's well worth it, especially for the calming effect it has on me.

I also exfoliate my entire body once a week, usually on the same day I oil my hair.

Mani/Pedi rarely because I never have the time.

Hair cut every six weeks

Facial with blackhead removal every eight weeks.

Shave underarms and legs every day(except in winter when it's weekly). Pubes get a trim with scissors every month. Will never wax down there till hell freezes over!!!

Em, think that's it.

When you say Oil Cleanse Method every third night, how do you clean your face on the other two days? Sorry if I've missed something obvious!

Crikey- okay here goes.

Morning shower with REN rose shower wash.
Once a week or more exfoliate body with REN scrub ( xmas pressie)or loofah.
Moisturise with either REN rose body lotion or cheapo cocoa butter.
If time will also apply Soap and Glory heel miracle on feet. Foot-file feet if can be bothered. Deodorant. Clean teeth.

Face- cleanse with cotton wool and hot water. Apply Clinique Youth Surge (ha!) eye cream, sun block, make up. Perfume.

Evening- bath. Apply more body lotion and foot cream. Clean teeth. Remove all make up and eye make up as well. Apply night cream, eye cream, neck cream.....eventually slip (!) into bed.

Once a week- shave pits, legs, do nails, file apply almost-clear coat of varnish on hands and deep plum colour on toes.

Wsah hair every 3rd/4th day. Hair cut every 8-ish weeks. Highlights 1 or 2x a year.

I think you are doing okay-ish but could spend more time on cleansing at night- are you going to bed with the day's muck and make up still on? ( blurgggh!) and mositurising your whole body. Doing your nails might give you a more groomed look and if you keep on top of the filing/cutting it takes only 10 minutes.

misshardbroom · 06/01/2010 15:59

yes, I'm afraid I've got really horribly lazy about taking make up off before bed. Which might explain the crappy skin...

If you do take off your make up- and all the sweat and muck- you will be amazed at what comes off! I cleanse, with a L'Oreal Age-Perfect lotion w hich is good and only costs around £3, then I splash my face with warm water and wipe over my face several times with cotton wool pads- the make up and muck is still coming off 3 pads later!

catinthehat2 · 06/01/2010 16:13

I would take off mascara at end of day after detaching lenses, no question.

Pillow stays white
Eyelashes do not break off because of rubbing against pillow
Eyes aren't full of vile detritus the next morning when its time to put yr lenses back in.
You will not look like a panda in the morning.

LastTrainToLapland · 06/01/2010 16:20

Sorry, the other two days I take off make up with cold cream and rinse my face. I try not to use soap or gel on my face because it makes me come out in spots for some reason, even the ones made for sensitive skin
