Best cashmere/wool shampoo or washing powder?

I was lucky enough to receive some lovely cashmere for CHristmas (socks & jumper) and am determined to look after properly. Any recommendations for handwash products?

I usually use either Dreft or Persil Silk & Wool wash - the latter is only for machine washable products though so no good for the cashmere.

I use the Ecover hand wash but I'm sure I've been told lots of times that a mild washing up liquid is actually gentler than proper clothes detergents and does the job just as well.

waitrose own brand liquid wool wash is vair good

I use Woolite or whichever of the delicate wash liquids are on special offer). I machine wash all my cashmere pullovers on a wool cycle.

I'm using Woolite at the moment but any of the handwash detergents are good. You don't need to use fabric softener with cashmere.

Lilymaid - do your cashmere pullovers state handwash only? Mine do but I wondered if I could get away with a wool cycle in machine.

I wash all our cashmere on wool cycle in machine - 30 degrees, 400 half spin.

I use woolite and machine wash cashmere even if they say handwash. I am lazy

oh, and I use the persil silk and wool stuff

I always used to hand wash all my cashmere until the other week when I discovered a major moth infestation and a lot of holes in my favourite jumpers () so I had to wash it all (apparently washing and ironing kills the eggs). I was worried the wash would ruin them but they were all absolutely fine. I just did it on the wool cycle and used my usual non-bio detergent.

this Smells divine.

Also shampoo is pretty good.

Tip: You know the almost waterproof quality of new jumpers, that goes the more you wash them? You can get that back by adding a little bit of Lansinoh cream into the wash. Mix it in a tiny bit of hot water and a spash of shampoo or something. Wool jumper will be water and stain and smell repellant. Magic.

My (John Lewis)jumpers' labels all state that they are machine washable on a wool wash. In the past I've machine washed (on wool wash) jumpers with hand wash labels and had no problems.

ooh, think I am going to have to indulge in some cleaning product shopping Am loving the ingredients in the Maison Belle cashmere wash and, of course, Brora being one of the best places for cashmere...think I might have to buy both and do a little market research

Think Tocca do a nice 'delicates' wash as well, will try to find link.

Could this be a way to circumvent the new 'no more clothes' resolution?! Just splash out more on caring for what wwe already have.

I use an Aussie product (you can order it online at Lakelands) called "Martha Gardeners Country homestead Wool Mix". Unfortunately you can only get it in Lavender and not eucalyptus which is my favourite and the smell makes me feel very homesick!

I hand wash all my jumpers (cashmere included) and bras (sad I know) in this and then put them on a very gentle wool spin cycle. You only need a little bit and a bottle lasts me almost a year!

I trained in aromatherapy a few years ago and ever since then I cannot abide synthetic lavender aromas.....whereas true lavender is one of my favourite oils
