Eye Liner 'felt tips pens' - is it just me?

Morning ladies...

So I'm a sucker for those adverts showing wide-eyed lasses all rimmed in sultry black. One of the mags recently noted that the model had used a Max Factor liquid eyeliner, and like the sap I am, I bought one.

However... after using it once it seems to have dried out - it went on beautifully that first time, but now I'm scratching away for a good few minutes trying to get a line going (a sleek thin line is out of the question!).

So what am I doing wrong? Is there a technique? Do I need some kind of primer on my eyelids first? I'm storing it tip down so I'm assuming the liquid should run into the tip, but that doesn't seem to be happening...

Help - I want those Bette Davis eyes!

Is there a bit the bottom that twists to get the liquid flowing?

I've used the Clarins one and the Dior one and they both do.

i used to use liquid eyeliner - much better than pencil.

shoudln't dry up like that - have a play to see if you can make it work. i have ones that are years old and still produce...

Take it to the relevant branded make up counter in Boots and ask their advice - they should know if there is a trick to it or if it's faulty, and if it's faulty you should be able to swap it.

I've had a cheapy avon one for ages and it's still in good working order.

I hate the felt tip pens - proper liquid with a brush gives a much better result

Thanks for your replies - no mine doesn't have a twisty thing at the end, or any other apparent way of increasing the flow. I'm going to try the product counter in Boots and see what they have to say.

Can you press the end so that it clicks?

Thats how you start the "flow" of the Boots No7 equivalent of Touche Eclat.

Love your username Norbert - I was obsessed by those trucks as a kid! (Don't ask!)... yeah I have a Touche Eclat and did wonder whether there was something similar, but no - it's just a plain little stump of a thing with a (now dried up) nib - very sorry state of affairs!

Buy collection 2000 liquid eyeliner. It's in a pot.

Cheap but fan-bloody-tastic.

I like the Ruby & Millie ones with a little brush at one end and a twisty bit at the other end

I always find those felt tip thingies a total let-down, as they do dry up fast and then they drag.

Bourjois liquid eyeliner is good.

Urban Decay was the best one IMO for years, until they made the pot a stupid shape; now it only lasts about 2 weeks because it's short and squat but you can't move the brush at an angle to get to the side bits.

Guerlain liquid eyeliner used to be amazing back when I could afford it.

Push the tip onto your hand and press hard, it goes in and out and helps get it going. I must admit I found these erratic and chucked them after a few weeks. They kept getting brilliant reviews, maybe the reviewers only used them once?

I've got a Max Factor one and you have to shake it up and down (with the lid on!)to get it going. It makes a kind of clicking noise when you do this.
