I bought jeggings, please tell me I am sane

They were so soft and looked so comfortable.

DH says they look ok, but he is a BOY.

All my tight jeans are past "tight" into obscene (10 w post baby), and I was sick of the plain black leggings.

Do I look a freak? (based on no actual photos whatsoever, just knowledge of jeggings)

I feel like they are the Jedward of the leg covering clothing range

I don't know what a Jedward is - and I know you are sane.

BUT - jeggings? Really? Surely they are over now...or reserved for mad teenagers? Then again, I haven't done tight jeans since I was about 18 either.

Just, whatever you do, make sure that whatever you wear with them comes to at least hip length and preferably longer.

paddingtonbear1 · 03/01/2010 14:45

where did you get them? I tried a few pairs on and they all looked awful, but then I tried the ones from Next which weren't too bad. And I can't normally wear tight jeans due to size of thighs! I wear mine with longer tops - nothing shorter than mid-thigh.

paddingtonbear1 · 03/01/2010 14:46

And no, it seems they are not quite over - if the new Next Directory is anything to go by!

JaneiteIsTrite · 03/01/2010 14:47

Next? I wouldn't listen to anything THEY say!

CMOTdibbler · 03/01/2010 14:47

I bought some jeggings (based on advice from here), and I do like them. However, to me, they are a legging alternative, rather than a jeans alternative iyswim, so are only worn with things that are mid thigh or longer.

overmydeadbody · 03/01/2010 14:49

I'm sure you don't look like a freak as long as you are wearing tops that cover your bum over them, i.e. not worn as an alternative to jeans with short tops

overmydeadbody · 03/01/2010 14:50

jeggings are going to be around for a while yet I recon...

tiredfeet · 03/01/2010 14:51

I just succumbed yesterday too, but have had moments of wondering if I am mad. Have been so glad I succumbed to leggings (so comfy, and show of my legs ), but wanted something a bit warmer. also, they seemed to be the only casual trousers available in all the shops I went in!

agree with CMOTdibbler / paddingto - need to be warn as a legging alternative, rather than jeans alternative, i.e. worn with long tops / tunic type things. also, I think they look nice with boots, but struggling to think of other footwear they would look ok with.

Flamesparrow · 03/01/2010 14:53

Oh yes, no way my arse is on show. My belly is of a state at the moment that I need long tops with leggings OR jeans, so not a problem (currently wearing them with a mid thigh wool tunic thing).

Ooh that book is great Janeite

Thankfully the b/f fat is on my stomach and bum rather than thighs this time. Plus the norks probably mean that no-one notices what is on my legs

I'm not sure I own anything other than boots that I wear on a daily basis...

Well I'm nearly 33 and can't be parted from mine

god that sounds unhygienic, but what I mean is i like em

Agree that you wear them same as you wear leggings, i.e not with short tops!

They just look like really well fitting skinnies, which is good for me as 'normal' skinnies that fit my hips gape at the waist, so tahnk fark for Jeggings

TopShop are still full of them too, think they may well become as ubiquitious as leggings, then the rest of you Mners will have to succumb

VeniVidiVici · 03/01/2010 15:18

I really like the look of jeggings

but

I don't think they like me

JaneiteIsTrite · 03/01/2010 15:24

Haven't worn leggings this time around either. I think they look hideous on about 95% of the people I see wearing them tbh.

Glad you're liking the book Flame. Have you cried yet?

LaSoiDisantDame · 03/01/2010 15:33

Ouch Janeite

JaneiteIsTrite · 03/01/2010 15:56

I'm sure they're fine. Am v far from a fashion icon myself.

piratecat · 03/01/2010 16:02

no i fear jeggings are on their way out, imo anyhow. my dd7 has them.

noddyholder · 03/01/2010 16:13

have a grey pair on today with chunky boots a white cheesecloth dress and grey cashmere cardi and they are soooo comfy. They are jst like jeans if you get a decent pair that fit well so shouldn't really go in or out too quick as jeans last a few seasons aswell.

MrsSeanBean · 03/01/2010 16:18

I don't 'get' jeggings, or leggings. I would like to. But IMO, only a small portion from above knee to maybe just below knee should be seen - less if you're following the trend for over-knee boots.

Why not just use thick opaques? Am I missing something important?

Marne · 03/01/2010 16:22

I wear them, i am 27 and my legs are great . I wouldn't wear them if i had tree trunk legs though.

I think they look great with boot and they are more comfortable than skinny jeans.

Flamesparrow · 03/01/2010 16:35

tights never fit me properly MrsSB
