Stilletto lace up ankle boots.....what to wear with?

I bought a black pair of ankle boots in the Next sale. I love them but can't think what to wear them with other than jeans.

Is it a no no to wear them with a skirt/dress unless they are long?

I have a pair of high lace up black stilleto shoes which are similar to shoe boots, I wear them with black opaques and a shortish dress/tunic.
also would look good with skinny jeans

I probably shouldn't be wearing heels at the moment but they are so nice and it's nice to buy something "normal".
