Stylish nappy bag

pispirispisloveschristmas · 30/12/2009 20:45

Hello all,

I?m sick of my horrible brown nappy bag that came with my buggy. My dd is 20 months old and I?ve recently found out I?m pregnant, so I think I?d get a lot of use out of a nice nappy bag. I love bags and I hate the fact that I don?t really use them any more as I have to have a big bag and I have to be able to attach it to the buggy handlebar as I use my buggy a lot and don?t want to have to carry it. Any ideas? I don?t like babyish or frilly flowery type stuff, I?d like something practical, stylish and grown-up. Any makes you know of that have a sale at the moment? Thanks all!

No such thing IMHO. Buy a nice handbag for you and put the nappy stuff into a nice wash/makeup bag that can be inserted into your own bag or put into the net bag under your buggy. I have 2xnappies, a travel wipe pack and a couple of nappy sacks in mine.

Alicehasamincepieintheoven · 30/12/2009 21:04

Try here i love the leather ones but expensive.

pispirispisloveschristmas · 30/12/2009 21:05

Ooooh I?ve just remembered that there was someone on mn talking about a fabby bag she had with lots of compartments ? if someone?s heard of a bag like that, it would be fantastic not to be rummaging around for ages all the time! I?m a SAHM, so would be traipsing around somewhere with this bag a lot, every day, and I?d love something to cheer me up when I?m knackered and covered in sick! In fact, I?ve just realised it?ll be te most important item in my ?wardrobe?!

I agree with AJ

Change bags are generally fugly

paulaplumpbottom · 30/12/2009 21:06

Why not use a Cath Kidston saddle bag. They are very roomy, oilcloth, and you can use it after

LetThemEatCake · 30/12/2009 21:11

lots here - I've got the Ramalama ava, which is gorgeous, doesn't look at all like a changebag. Am also using Oushka Oakley, currently on sale

ceb80 · 30/12/2009 21:14

I have a really nice brown leather one from Mamas and Papas which actually just looks like a handbag. Unfortunately doesn't have a shoulder strap so is a bit of a pain with the buggy but I just rest it on the top of the visor thing in front of the handle.
Was quite pricey but will use it as a handbag once DS is older

pispirispisloveschristmas · 30/12/2009 21:26

Oops, sorry, cross-posted and then was busy with dh back from dentist in ?agony?. Hmmm, lots to look at here?

bags with lots of compartments could be a ju-ju be bag??
www.ju-ju-be.com/

pispirispisloveschristmas · 30/12/2009 23:41

Thanks Alice and LTEC for the links, lots to choose from there. I love the leather totes too (love totes in general), but they are too expensive for me. Loads of other bags to choose from there though..

Wow, madmissy, I?m really impressed with the Ju Ju Be bags ? just watched the video! Americans really know how to sell, don?t they. The bags have anti-microbial whatsits, a memory foam changing bag , a holder for your sunglasses that also cleans them, a keychain, a crumb drain!!? How do I live without this bag? I don?t know whether to laugh or buy one right away? And it?s machine washable?oh I think I?m going to get one? Wait a minute, buggy clips sold separately? Can?t you just hang it over the handlebar?

OP posts:
madmissy · 31/12/2009 07:23

I use the clips you buy off ebay the big hook like ones and that way you can use for other stuff too. Will link later but on my phone at mo

AngelinaJolly · 31/12/2009 09:49

LTEC- I may have to eat my words! The Il Tutto's and the Ramalama's look v nice. I'm on the lookout for a bag with lots of compartments and zips and a shoulder strap for my trip down under...
Everything I've seen so far misses one of the above components. I need:

Shoulder strap to allow hands free for toddler holding/ chasing at the airport.
Zipped main body- to avoid bag spewing it's contents throughout the overhead locker.
Multi pockets to store 101 distractions for les enfants during the flight.

Do you think the Il Tutto Nico or Stella would do? Or can you raise me something similar without a zip-out-lining???

EdgarAleNPie · 31/12/2009 09:55

i saw some fabbo Oilily ones...

newkiwi · 31/12/2009 10:00

I have the Phil and Teds one which basically looks like a cool message bag. But I wish it had a crumb drain cos I keep getting sand in it. It also looks fairly macho. I had illusions OH might occasionally carry it. He just says it is too heavy.

MummyAnnabella · 31/12/2009 14:17

i got the storksak elizabeth in tan last yea for christmas and it changed my life - well almost! i have used it daily for a year so although was £160 was def worth it.

i too was sick of my pram matching one and this makes me feel like a grown up again. has loads of compartments and easy to keep neat. cannot tell you how much i love it!

blossoming · 31/12/2009 18:11

I've got the il tutto mia nappy bag in black, and it's amazing. I was the same, two children in nappies when I bought it this summer. Pricey, dh had a fit when he found the receipt. Should have hidden it better. Up to me what I spend my maternity allowance on!!

LetThemEatCake · 01/01/2010 20:39

happy new year AJ hope your party was amazing

Am on the bag mission for you after weekend if you're not in a tearing hurry,am trying to have a laptop-free start to the year

AngelinaJolly · 02/01/2010 19:45

Woohoo- worth a try LTEC! Seriously, you do know your sartorial onions. NYE was great, although DH shouldn;t have fessed up to how much he spent on the pyrotechnics fireworks; however it serves to justify further my baglust. Did you have a good one?

LetThemEatCake · 02/01/2010 22:10

ha ha, parallel lives - we had the same discussion (and outcome) after our Bonfire Night party. He played Firestarter, I had a visit from the DHL man the following week

anyway, flattery will get you everywhere (plus I have an undeniable soft spot for you bc of your choice of spouse) but be warned that I am now going to waffle.

Those bags would probably tick all of your boxes but they - particularly the Ramalamas, not so much the Tuttos - might look a bit wrong when you actually touch down. Just a bit too heavy, too leathery. I'm not all about matching the bag to the shoes but I do think that brown/ black leather bags look at odds with flip flops, flat strappies etc which is most likely what you'll be wearing, even at that time of year, in laid back Qld. If you're going for leather, then metallics like [http://www.happybags.co.uk/category-177/820.html this one]] work better I think.

There's also these bags = both in the sale and both casual/ beachy enough to work in warmer climes and not look at odds. Admittedly no top zip though ... For that, there's this or this If they don;t have enough compartments, I generally tend to buy a couple of zippered nylon washbag/ make up bag thingys in different colours/ designs and assign each one to a different dc so that they're easy to identify and grab, and easily portable if you need to take one to the loo or whatever.

Since your dds are also at a reasonable age, I'd also get them each a bag of their own to carry their own activities & bits and bobs. If they're anything like my oldest 2, the taking out and putting in of their things will constitute an activity in itself! Have you seen clippykit? Girls love them and filling the pockets is in itself an on-board activity. Start getting busy with the scissors now and you could have a whole stash of pics in your carry-on so that they can change their designs over and over again ...

hope that's a bit helpful lovely .. will keep looking out for bags for you in the meantime. I've ordered the plum Phoenix, we must compare notes when they arrive!

scaryhairycat · 02/01/2010 22:27

I like the pastel green/blue ones you can get....from Tesco....in a pack of 50...for 29p!

(Sorry couldn't resist - first thing that came into my head when I read the title!)

I know just what you mean - all the bags I've seen are either hideous or hideously expensive; I've resorted to my old, much loved, fluffy leopard print handbag that has been stretched to within an inch of it's life around the handlebar of my DD pushchair!

Couldn't take the free Boots baby club one any longer - felt like a dishevelled paperboy every time I carried it! (Minus the day-glow colours of course - now that would have been fetching! )

PrammyMammy · 03/01/2010 16:03

tkmaxx have some amazing oilily ones in at the mo. yummymummy ones are also nice.

AngelinaJolly · 03/01/2010 20:01

Blossoming- I wish I'd seen Il Tutto when I was expecting my first babe.

LTEC- I'm a bit to admit I already have the Storksac Emily in pewter. I haven't used it much (bought it for a little holiday a year ago when both girls were in nappies) as I'm just not really a changing bag type person. However I will need a magic bag to hold an array of wonderful things to keep the girls busy on the flight. So I may give it another outing before ebaying it.
V Good Point about about QLD; black/ patent/ leather might be a bit sticky and dark as you say.

handbagsandgladrags · 03/01/2010 22:04

Def check out TKMaxx. I've been on the hunt for a new, reasonably priced, roomy, 'designer' style change bag for a couple of months now. So was very pleased with myself when i popped into TKMaxx today & grabbed myself a bargain . Picked up a fab OiLily one for just £19.99. Got lots of pockets & compartments, change mat etc etc. Check them out on Ebay here

harimosmummy · 03/01/2010 22:09

Hi,

I've not read all the thread, but just seeing how old your LO is, I would recomend the bag I recently got.

I have a 19MO and a 5MO and I got this bag which is a high chair combined with a change bag - it has a change mat, pocket for bottle etc.,

I am so amazingly impressed with it, as it means I can get 19MO sorted (and contained! ) and then sort the 5Mo out.

I don't know the make of it - but I will dig it out for you and post. It wasn't expensive, but by god, it's a lifesaver

Also, would be worth getting one of those little back pack bags that has reins included, so that way you can put the 20MO nappy in his bag and the little one's nappies in your change bag. Until they are in somewhere close to the same size nappies, you have to carry 2 of everything!!!!

Will come back with that name when I find it.

HM

harimosmummy · 03/01/2010 22:14

hoppop bag here it is.

I also have the P&T travel high chair, but it's impossible to get sorted with 2 kids to deal with. This one takes seconds to fit to any chair, and is has enough space for everything you need.

I use this and then take my mulberry handbag for my stuff!!!

I'd recommend it above any other bag when you have two under 2!!!
