What make-up disasters have you had?

was getting ready and about to put on this quite nice eye shadow that I found in a deep dark cupboard then remembered last time I wore it, someone asked me how I had got my black eye . In my defence, I had got ready v quickly that night and hardly looked at myself but I didn't look THAT bad (have sort of coloured skin on my eyes anyway if that makes sense and unfortunately, this eye shadow seemed to accentuate the purply pink skin).

So has anyone else screwed up with their make-up and not looked as good as they thought they did?

have also put mascara on in a hurry and only realised several hours later that I had a black mark across my nose where the brush rubbed against it

When I was 15 I cut my fringe too short by myself then tried to tong it longer and burned between my eyebrows and that was my passport photo for the next 10 years.

foxinsocks · 29/12/2009 18:46

lol buta, you poor thing lol

in my passport photo, I had to take the pic v quickly as my passport expired and I only realised the day before I was due to fly. The photo was taken in a machine that had a really bright flash and I was smiling so it shone off one of my front teeth so it looks like I have a gold tooth at the front . I often get a stare at my teeth at passport control. I feel like jaws from Bond.

I wore stick on false nails one.

I rummageed in my handbag during the evning to get a powder compact out...all the nails came off and were stuck round the edge like petals.

i once ripped out all my eyelashes with eyelash curlers - they got old and wobbly and tore one entire eyes eyelashes completely out. i looked really odd but no one could ever tell exactly why!

tiredemma · 29/12/2009 19:24

Rushing to go out once (taxi beeping its horn outside), I decided to give my hair one last blast of hairspray (going back about 15 years ago when quiffs and perms were 'big')

Short while after (when friends were pissing themselves laughing in a bar) it transpired that I actually used deodorant on my hair and looked like the bloke off Beetlejuice.

electric blue eyeshadow and blue eyeliner

I have brown eyes and brown hair

twas the 80's

kdk · 29/12/2009 20:44

Not really beauty disaster - but burnt off my eyelashes, eyebrows and most of my fringe trying to light a cigarette while playing one of those space invader tables ... see kids smoking is very very bad for you!

Oh, and wearing choosy cherry lipstick which just made your teeth look yellow from the age of 12 til the age of 15 (I was quite the punk y'understand)

cocolepew · 29/12/2009 20:48

Grey eyeshadow making me look like I'd be punched in the eye

Doing full eye make up on one eye only and then going to work

Shaving the back of my head bald, by accident

My heavily hairsprayed hair catchinng fire, while I was being chatted up by someone I'd fancied for ages

foxinsocks · 30/12/2009 09:24

lol at all the burning incidents

do your eyelashes grow back quickly I wonder?

god, yes the 80s were disastrous. I was sure I looked gorgeous and I bet I bloody didn't!

quite quickly considering!

PandaEis · 31/12/2009 01:07

coco did you look like the bloke off clockwork orange??
my sister did that last week and i laughed so much i peed a bit haha she turned up after going for a big shop and to some clothes shops with her bags and a sheepish smile she had amy winehouse-esque eyeliner on one eye only she said she had a shade of laughing and pointing in her direction until she caught her reflection in the mirror of one of the many dressing rooms on her travels

i once wore almost black sparkly eye shadow and false eye lashes...then in my infinite wisdom i decided the best lipstick to wear was a dark goth-y purple and pink/coral blusher!! i looked like a drag queen and i can assure that i had NO men pawing over me on that night out

Chandon · 31/12/2009 09:47

I used to go to department stores and "test" make up at the counters (they were unmanned in those days)when I was 15, I put on loads of eye shaddow (blue and green, yes it was the 80s), blusher (terracotta, again, twas the 80s....) and red lipstick.

Then went to meet a friend at McD´s. I felt VERY feminine and sexy.

Cue for a grogeous tall bloke to walk up to me and say: "Can I ask you something?"

I fluttered my lashes.

He said: "Have you been playing with your mum´s paint kit by any chance?" Then all his mates started laughing.

the horror the horror....

brimfull · 31/12/2009 09:52

not makeup disaster really but in the makeup department

My mum picked up a tester and sprayed her neck - turned out to be a mousse lololol
It was everwhere, all over her face and neck.

She was on her own which made it worse.

JacksmamaInAPearTree · 31/12/2009 19:31

Not a make-up disaster but a Style and Beauty one... involving my pink ladygarden clippers. I put fresh batteries in. It worked much more efficiently than before. Meaning I should have used less pressure.

I feel a bit naked down there... having been left with pubic hair that is no more than 4 or 5 mm long.

Oops

UpsyOne · 31/12/2009 21:46

ROFL at ggirl! Can you imagine watching someone do that - and how on earth did your mum style that one out?

deaddei · 01/01/2010 16:20

I too have burned the tops of my ears whilst tonging my Purdey cut- sure Joanna Lumley never did that.
