Bags - want to get the "perfect" bag for £300 or less. What would you choose?

I got a couple of little pressies from DH and an IOU for xmas (he's not very well at the mo so don't hold it against him - proper ill, not man flu). I also got an unexpected bonus at work so thought I might treat self to a handbag. But ... I want it to be THE bag. Ideally, lovely soft buttery leather, big enough to hold everything but not sack like. I'd rather it was unstructured rather than hard. I work from home so really it just needs to be a lovely casual bag. Brown I think.

I don't want to go crazy Chloe £1500 bags but reckon surely can get a nice one for less than £300. Am not going to be able to get to the shops easily so thought before I start trawling online, I would consult you, the mumsnet style gurus, to get a nudge in the right direction!

I'm thinking of this one - which sounds like it fits your description as well? First heard about Oushka on here and they really are gorgeous bags!

this one

FabHasHadALovelyXmas · 29/12/2009 13:11

That looks lovely and soft.

hellsbelles · 29/12/2009 13:16

It does look yummy doesn't it! I got a different one from them a while back (I think it was LTEC that I saw a link from) and it's really lovely.

Wishing if you do get please do tell us what it is like. DH found the link I'd saved and was rather cross as he just got me a rather lovely bag for christmas and asked how I could possibly be looking at another.

Can't really explain to him how the bag thing works - i.e. never enough

hellsbelles · 30/12/2009 18:23

wishing....hope I've caught you in time...they've got a sale now! And it's reduced.

Would go to local market. Spend £10 on bag. Put remainder £290 in bag

wishingchair · 04/01/2010 14:32

I like that one too Dexter. Decisions.

Lol Iklboo ... am looking at my £10 bag now. Not a pretty sight.

i love tabitha bags

LetThemEatCake · 05/01/2010 09:49

I had a bad experience with Tabitha ... don't rate them at all, esp not compared to Oushka

mummee09v · 05/01/2010 09:51

my DP bought me a Balenciaga motorcycle bag for christmas, it is truly LUSH!!!

I am not sure what he paid for it but if you are an ebayer you can pick up second hand ones for around the £300 mark if you keep your eye out. and they look better the more they age anyway.

Ronaldinhio · 05/01/2010 10:21

try proper sellers second hand on ebay you'll get a lot for your money if you want an it type bag
otherwise I saw a nice one in river island of all places

hellsbelles · 05/01/2010 13:07

Oh LTEC - I am disappointed with Tabitha too. I ordered the stardust (I think it was called that??) and it arrived ages later smelling of mothballs - I thought if I left it to air a bit it would get better but it really didn't. I sent it back and they quickly sent a replacement which wasn't any better.

So I sent that back! I did like the style and the follow up customer service was very good. But that smell even my DH was commenting and he never ever notices things like that.

cleaningsucks · 06/01/2010 21:00

oh no. good to know. have a bag in my shopping cart i was thinking of buying...

ta

hellsbelles · 06/01/2010 21:53

maybe it was bad luck for me cleaning? I know they are out of stock now on the colour I ordered so perhaps the two I got had sat about in the warehouse for ages hence the smell??!! Never come across anything like it before.

The lady did say they were getting new stock in so maybe it would be worth trying later. To be fair to them they were good about it - and it did look great - even though you could smell me before you saw me

LadyBlaBlah · 06/01/2010 21:55
