I am horrified and shocked that at the grand old age of 37 I seem to be sprouting hair on my upper lip..

I am very fair skinned and un hairy in general so I was hoping this would not happen for a few years yet.

What is the best way to deal with it ? I have had a pluck but was eye wateringly painful so was hoping some one could give me some advice on this.

I have read the laser thread but my hair is quite fine (on my lip that is) and I cound not afford that sort of thing either

Have namechanged BTW as am so utterly horrified

Waxing?

I have a few on my chin and tried nair facial hair remover, It was a waste of money.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 21/12/2009 09:31

Veet.

Dirtgirl · 21/12/2009 09:33

Mine are quite fine on my upper lip so I just cut them short with nail scissors. Electrolysis was eye wateringly painful and plucking makes them thicker and darker.

SleighBelleDameSansMerci · 21/12/2009 09:36

Waxing will make it finer and less noticeable when it returns (which it will). I found that hair removal creams made the regrowth feel a bit rough which I didn't like. Waxing at home can be painful (but not as bad as plucking) although this is what I do. I'd recommend a salon really. It's not expensive but it does require planning which seems to be beyond me!

If it's very fine and you don't want to remove it, you could use Jolen bleach. I did this until it became too noticeable!

thanks will prob. go the waxing route as go to a salon for leg waxes any way

threading definitely gets my vote for staying a non-hairy Christmas fairy.

geordieminx · 21/12/2009 21:08

waxing here too.

Get bikini done every month, usually get lip done every other month.

Paolosgirl · 21/12/2009 21:10

Waxing, definitely. I now do my own tache - it's really easy.

fishie · 21/12/2009 21:12

keep on plucking. i find wax removes top layer of skin and makes a big red upper lip.

Paolosgirl · 21/12/2009 21:13

Blimey fishie

Fruitbatlings · 21/12/2009 21:16

threading is the best way but not the least painful

Seriously painful, especially the top lip!

brimfull · 21/12/2009 21:17

sugaring - much better for the skin than waxing

SixtyFootDoll · 21/12/2009 21:21

I do my own with Veet facil wax strips, hurts a bit, but I have got used to it.
Be hairy and proud I say!!

Swedington · 21/12/2009 21:24

Gawd, they all sound so painful. A friend bleached her facial hair and it made it all much much more noticeable, thicker. She looked a bit like one of the men from Abba.

ReindeerRusso · 21/12/2009 21:25

I use wax strips. You can get Veet ones especially for facial use. You can cut them easily to the right shape. It's not painful at all.

NancyDrewRocks · 23/12/2009 07:39

Can definitely reccomend threading.

LastTrainToLapland · 23/12/2009 09:52

Threading threading threading.
Once you've tried it, nothing else can replace it

saadia · 23/12/2009 10:06

SIL (a GP) told me that waxing the face might cause the skin to sag.

SilverSixpence · 25/12/2009 11:05

omg at sagging upper lip! i wax, but must admit to not being very regular with it Mostly because I get a bad reaction to it (skin goes blotchy and kind of lumpy!) it goes away by the morning though.

used to use facial cream, until had nasty chemical burn once even with sensitive facial cream - test first.

upafrozenhill · 25/12/2009 16:14

Threading was my new discovery of 2009. It's wonderful!!

why don't we just shave?

it doesn't make underarm or leg hair grow back any more vigorously does it, or does it?

jabberwocky · 25/12/2009 17:33

sugaring????
