Don't bother with John Lewis own brand opaques :-(

I was really pleased to find a lovely shade of charcoal opaques in John Lewis 2 days ago. Wore them for the first time today. They are awful quality. The colour is really uneven, the tops laddered as soon as they were put on and they have pilled really badly where my boots have touched against them. Oh and they are really high shine too (eww)

Back to Wolfords for me

Oh no, I was actually looking at their tights online last night! Might give M&S a go then, hope they are better. Still looking for some perfect woolly warm tights too. I got some JL years ago but can't find them any more.

potplant · 17/12/2009 12:51

You can't beat Boots for tights IMO

MrsBadger · 17/12/2009 12:51

Falke

costs but worth it

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 17/12/2009 12:55

You are spot on about Boots and tights, Potplant. Give them a try op. Not £squillions like Wolford etc.

You can't beat Next for socks either, thats my tip of the day.

And Hennes for boys scants.

And Greggs for cheese and onion pasties.

And Neutrogena for moisturiser.

Right, I'll stop now ...

fishie · 17/12/2009 12:56

falke are marvellous. i am wearing merino in teal right now. their footless cotton soft are lovely too in jewel colours

NorkilyChallenged · 17/12/2009 12:57

Lol bibbity...

Will have to try Boots - you reminded me I used to get them there in my student days!

Falke look lovely but I am almost guaranteed to catch a pair of £22 tights with my keys/buckle/stairgate and rip a hole them

Sorry, Tulpe, seem to have adopted your thread.

BlueKangerooWonders · 17/12/2009 13:01

Again, Boots everytime! Esp when they do 3 for 2 which seems quite often.

angelene · 17/12/2009 13:08

Oh wow I'd completely forgotten about Boots for tights! They used to be ace - another MN triumph

I have just bought these so am back in black opaques again - especially good as there's a dreadful draught in the office around my legs while work is going on, so sheer tights aren't really doing it at the moment.

tulpe · 17/12/2009 13:11

Will definitely try Boots then.

I love my Wolfords but really wanted a charcoal shade and they didn't have any. The Falke ones are more grey marl rather than a plain shade.

The more expensive they are the more likely I am to rip them. I might as well put my £20 in the bin and save myself the bother.
That's why its Boots all the way for me! Their Tall size fit me perfectly and if I rip them I haven't wasted too much money.

purplepeony · 17/12/2009 13:16

That's a shame- I got 3 pairs - teal, purple and black- for a £5 -ish and they are lovely. Soft, washed well, and comfy.

tulpe · 17/12/2009 15:59

Purplepeony - did you buy the cotton rich ones? I have those in "bark" (ie dark brown!) and they have been great. The ones which have been a waste are the 60 denier opaques at £7 a pair.

Tulpe, I just linked to these on another thread, I'm a recent convert, they are the bees knees
