Birkenstocks: I thought they were supposed to be comfy???

Never occurred to me they could hurt my feet! Got a pair of Madrids (the single strap type) - they're hurting the upper part of my feet, where the strap is - it's very hard. Is it me, or what???

haven't really seen a midwife so far, but all the doctors are great. i was induced with ds, & it was long & instrumental, so am hoping for something a bit quicker!

i will look out for a dinosaur on the streets around the homerton tomorrow!

hoxtonchick · 27/06/2005 16:04

mine never hurt but sis complained a bit at first.. they need to be worn in and once this has been achieved you'll will never look back. I bought my mum a pair and she lives in them now. Advice for all the newbies considering birkenstocks.. other peoples birkenstocks will be uncomfortable because they have moulded to the shape of their feet always buy new!

marthamoo · 28/06/2005 07:17

Mine hurt the soles of my feet (Madrids too) and I'm a lightweight, I'm afraid, I haven't persevered: I got some DMs instead!

And oooh Good Luck HoxtonChick!

Tanzie · 28/06/2005 23:22

I got two pairs tonight which arrived from footshopping.com, recommended by someone here. They are soo comfy, better than bare feet. I did have to adjust the strap quite a bit on the Madrids to get it right, but I love them.

misdee · 29/06/2005 22:16

mien have arrived.

have been padding about in my madrids all afternoon/evening. they are more comfty than my flip flops.

Earlybird · 29/06/2005 22:22

My problem doesn't come from the soles being different/unfamiliar. I have terrible blisters from where the straps rubbed on the sides of my feet, just above the arches. I foolishly wore them out for a full day's walking with the expectation that they'd be really comfortable. Must admit I haven't worn them since, but maybe it's time to give them another go....

hunkermunker · 29/06/2005 22:23

gingerbear · 29/06/2005 22:27

I wore mine with a pair of socks round the house for a couple of weeks to break them in - always works...

franch · 13/07/2005 19:05

Well, you were all right, my Birkies are now officially worn in and very comfy indeed - don't think I'd persevered without my unquestioning trust in you lot - thanks

Mine are very comfy but starting to smell bad. I don't know whether to get some more or limp on with the smelly ones this summer.

franch · 13/07/2005 19:12

The little leaflet that came with mine says you can get the soles replaced - ?

OP posts:
franch · 13/07/2005 19:23

(By the soles I mean the footbed as well as the underneath bit - no doubt there's info on the Birkenstocks website)

spidermama · 13/07/2005 19:55

Oh. I'll look into that Franch. Thanks.

gossifer · 13/07/2005 20:07
