I cannot find a dress suitable for dh's xmas party on Sat night. I have cried off my own xmas do on Wed and drinks tonight because I have nothing to wear at all. My problem is my huge belly (the sort where people ask you when you are due, but actually I'm not expecting at all). I a 5ft 1, size 14 with big boobs (36DD) and a big belly. Sat night is a posh affair, I can't face it in leggings. Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to advise.

I'll have a go geisha

What colours do you like/look good in?

Are you happy showing your arms/legs/cleavage?

Can you do high heels?

What's your budget?

geisha · 14/12/2009 17:45

Thank you bunny!

Can do bold colours - purple, emeraldy green or black (but open to suggestion. Have dark hair and eyes but fair skin. Don't mind heals, love strapless dresses (if by boobs don't keep it up my belly will and they suit my not so thin). Budget of about 150 ish. Thank you!

good for disguisin tummy

empire line

pretty in pink

traceybath · 14/12/2009 17:55

strapless

In fact I'd just go to coast and try everything on!

traceybath · 14/12/2009 17:56

expensive but fab label for curvy ladies

Ruching is your friend in terms of disguising a tummy.

ModestlyglazedHam · 14/12/2009 17:57

Wish i had the boobs to pull thisoff!

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 14/12/2009 17:59

Have you got spanx?? They are what you want, made me look like i had a flat tummy at a wedding 3 weeks after having dd. The ones that go right up to under your boobs.

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 14/12/2009 18:00

That Viv dress is lovely.

geisha · 14/12/2009 18:03

thanks tracyb - ur first 4 links won't work - can you describe the dresses for me so I can find them on the website please? Modest - it's a lovely dress but will not do a thing for my belly.

Ok well you sound quite similar to me in colouring and belly issues so I should be able to help lol!

Personally I would avoid strapless when you are big of nork. They flatten your boobs and just don't look very sophisticated or classy imo.

You need to get some industrial control underwear first. They are amazing for flattening your tummy and can make a dress look totally different on you.

Now here's a few to start...

Love this. The colour would look great on you

A compromise on the strapless lol! This is gorgeous!

Someone was raving about this dress in real life on here the other day. You could really accessorize it up?

Cute?

This is pretty

So am I in any way close?!

geisha · 14/12/2009 18:09

argghh I cant get the coast and oasis links to work! can you describe?

Rosina and Corey dresses on coast - you should be able to search on those.

Mesh dress on next website.

BunnyLebowski · 14/12/2009 18:14

Mine are the Coast Avianna and the Oasis Lantern Dress in purple?

geisha · 14/12/2009 18:18

don't think some of these will fit round my belly

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 14/12/2009 18:40

Even with the magic knickers? I bet your belly isn't as big as you think it is.

tethersjinglebellend · 14/12/2009 18:53

Would you wear something with a full skirt, 50s style?

Great for boobs and covers tummy.

BunnyLebowski · 15/12/2009 16:02

Have you given up geisha?

Moneyspider · 15/12/2009 18:23

I have an L K Bennett red silk puffball strapless dress which would fit the bill...i wore it post c-section and am same bust size as you. You're more than welcome to borrow it if you like.

Also, Cod once recommended a phase eight pink dress for those large of nork with tums which was lovely. Think this is the winter equivalent, but may be wrong.

BrianGiggs · 15/12/2009 18:35

hmm they are BIG their sizes so watchet

LukaSweetBabyJesus · 15/12/2009 18:46

Loving that site tethersjinglebeelend

I was going to suggest good old vivien of holloway Sorry if already been suggested. Have only skimmed thread, but love her dresses and they only really suit a curvy figure. Perfect!

And the phase 8 dress looks great.
