Proper leggings, not new-fangled footless tight things

I am looking for some black leggings that are proper material, and don't go see-through like tights.

Any idea where, as I don't want to have to try on twenty pairs - I hate shopping with a passion! Oh, and if they have lycra, that would be great .

er in every shop in the land

Libertyloberty · 13/12/2009 23:07

I wish!
I have tried DP, M&S, Primark and Debenhams. All I can find are ones that are in tights material, rather than cotton/lycra.
I assumed it would be easy, but it ain't .
I know that these sort of leggings/tights are popular with the blokes 'tops and tights - great, it's like they've forgotton to put a skirt on', but it isn a look I want to achieve.

they are in the shop
in the trouser section
how odd you cant find them

BrianGiggs · 13/12/2009 23:09

leggings

Libertyloberty · 13/12/2009 23:41

Well, the lady in M&S said we only have these type - pointing at the going-see-through-when stretched-type. I did try some on, but they weren't proper leggings at all.
Hmm.

I saw a woman wearing what looked like jeggings but as I got closer to her they were very thin and looked painted on - I guess they were those footless tight things.

It was really quite obscene - I could see the line between her cheeks!!!

Oh, and it looked like she was going to work!

nappyaddict · 14/12/2009 01:25

I got mine from George in Asda.

Romanarama · 14/12/2009 07:43

Next.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 14/12/2009 07:58

Topshop are good.

monkeysmama · 14/12/2009 08:12

these are great from American Apparel Suggested them on here before and everyone who has got them seems pleased. They are a bit dearer than some places but are much thicker and don't go see through, they keep their shape and are by far the best quality of any I have found.

I own Topshop ones (black faded quickly), Next (the stomach bit is like a parachute even on my mummy tummy), M&S (go baggy round the knees) and Primark (don't bother). The AA ones also kind of hold you in iyswim without being uncomfortable.... I don't work for them I promise!

fishie · 14/12/2009 08:21

i like aa leggings too, they are cottony rather than shiny and keep shape well.

Libertyloberty · 18/12/2009 22:10

Thanks again. i looked at the AA ones, but couldn't bring myself to pay so much for leggings

I have found some though! In M&Co, which I had never been in before. Cotton and lycra and dead comfy .

Btw - thanks, but I didn't try Next as I always go in hopeful and come out empty-handed, and I am far too old to cross the door at Topshop !

just wanted to quickly say to the OP that I understand your pain! Am TOTALLY fed up of see-through leggings, tried SO many pairs in Topshop, next etc and keep going into shops now asking for non-see through leggings ...

nappyaddict · 03/01/2010 13:26

Don't get the George ones. Mine now have a whole in them Tesco £7 ones still going strong though. Anyone tried Matalan's?

Wolford are the best by a country mile. I have got some in John Lewis in the past I think.
