Help! I need perfume recommendations- for someone who likes Opium!

My Mum loves Opium by YSL but would like to try something new....I am at a complete loss as to what kind of thing to go for and can't get to a shop to have a sniff to remind myself what it smells of!

Does anybody have any ideas?

Harpic

purplehat · 09/12/2009 23:03

See- I hate the smell of it, which is why I am:
a) keen to find her something nicer, and
b) unable to think of something in the same vein as it!

Obsession

Cinnabar

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 09/12/2009 23:06

Poison (the perfume one obv) (ignoring A. obv)

Arsed · 09/12/2009 23:08

Yeah I was going to say Poison.

purplehat · 09/12/2009 23:09

Thanks...she doesn't like anything too sweet smelling but Cinnabar sounds like it might be worth a try!

I actually like strong perfumes like Opium. Obsession would be a good choice or Addict by Christian Dior.

purplehat · 09/12/2009 23:14

Thanks Pink- that is really helpful.
Which out of those two would you say would be similar to Opium?

Obsession is fab. Poison is foul. I like Sublime (Jean Patou), but it might not be "strong" enough.

pinkmagic1 · 09/12/2009 23:16

I would say Obssesion, Addict is a bit lighter or you could try Samsara or even Jean Paul Gaultier.

purlease · 09/12/2009 23:20

alien It's like a softer version of poison (in my humble opinion). Can't think what Opium is like but based on other suggestions, this might hit the mark.

drlovesmincepies · 09/12/2009 23:25

coco channel?

purplehat · 09/12/2009 23:30

I'm wondering if I can get samples of some for her to try....it would be a bit of an expensive mistake if I bought something she disliked!

I like Coco Chanel actually...but as a general rule she doesn't tend to like anything that I do!

Thank you all for your help- very much appreciated

Lolita Lempicka perfumes are very heady. And come in gorgeous bottles. I love overbearing perfumes. Also, La Dolce Vita by Dior is heavy

alypaly · 10/12/2009 00:09

poison is horrible.
From memory opium is quite heavy and heady, what i would call an evening perfume.

How a Ysatis by givency or Kasmir. kasmir is on similar lines

MollieO · 10/12/2009 00:22

Hermes Caleche - not as overpowering as Opium but still quite an earthy scent.

jemart · 10/12/2009 00:26

Guerlain Mitsouko

gillybeanie · 10/12/2009 00:54

Mitsouko..wow i love that perfume, though haven't seen it on sale anywhere for a long time

WickedWench · 10/12/2009 01:10

Fendi smells similar to Opium

Narciso Rodriguez for Her is also quite nice. DP bought me some for my birthday. I will be buying more.

second vote here for Alien, I love to wear 'night' perfumes too and this is my absolute favourite.

notgettingmuchdone · 10/12/2009 02:01

I vote Alien. I used to love Opium / Poison and have moved on to Alien in the last year or so. Still heady and 'different', memorable I like to think
