do they work and which one is best?

shall I take that as a resounding no then?

The best face illuminator I used is by By Terry

www.spacenk.co.uk/product/shop+by+brand/by+terry/200002936+rose+de+rose.do

It is actually a cream blush but the colour is very soft and it has illuminators and so really highlights cheekbones, etc. Pricey but worth it.

Touche eclat is good but I preferred Dior's version as the colour is softer.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 10/12/2009 11:22

thanks sh77

isn't touche eclat a cover up though?

High beam by Benefit is good. I normally forget to use it though and you have to go easy or you end up looking a bit strange!! I'd highly recommend 'Nars - The Multiple' in 'Orgasm' (yes really!) It illuminates and colours.

sh77 · 10/12/2009 15:48

Touche eclat highlights and conceals. I personally don't like it as it is too dry. Another excellent face illuminator is by Armani

www.giorgioarmanibeauty.co.uk/_en/_gb/catalog/product.aspx?prdcode=A044&CatCode=AXE_COSME TICSF1FACEF2FACE_FOUNDATIONS&

You can get a white pearlescent one or some with colour. I asked them for a couple of samples. Really nice product under foundation.

Never used High Beam but it seems to be very highly rated.

CybilLiberty · 10/12/2009 15:49

Best one is Prescriptives Moon beam, a pearlescent pink which makes even my tortoise skin look like Kylies

minxofmancunia · 10/12/2009 16:05

another vote for benefit high beam here.

MAC strobe cream also good mixed with foundation. Have heard toucheclat is a wonder product and am considering buying some as the shadows under my eyes (have 11 week old ds!) are so pronounced now it looks like I've smeared purple eyeshadow underneath them!

ok, as I am illuminator virgin please tell me it's not necessary to wear foundation too. I'm wanting to perk myself up daytime and only ever wear foundation for nights out/special occassions.

Am prepared to pay ££ as don't spend a fortune on makeup and think I should treat myself to something nice

Don`t need to wear foundation, especially if you go for one with colour. The By Tery one really makes your skin look smooth if you put it on your cheeks.

I say try to get some samples to see how it feels on your skin. Armani one is very light and so you can use as much as you want. Some feel too dry.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 10/12/2009 17:16

I can feel a trip to Selfridges coming on ... try before you buy and all that. Thanks for the advice

I actually bought it on a buy one get one free with a bottle of vit e oil and didn't think I'd use it but I'm never without it.Would never pay more now I mix it with foundation or put it on first and then foundation for evening or at weekends if I'm staying in I just wear it STOCK UP it sells out

ChrisMissWooWoo · 11/12/2009 14:00

Prescriptives Magic Potion is good - use alone or as a base or as a highlighter.

Nars multiple Copacabana as a highlighter. Lasts ages too.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 14/12/2009 16:38

reporting back ....couldn't make it to Selfridges but managed to get to a local-ish Debenhams. Unfortunately no Armani counter but tried the Benefit Moon Beam and High Beam. Not impressed, sorry girls. Maybe I was expecting too much? Didn't notice any difference (and the make up lady put it on)!

Asked DP if my face looked different and he said "er ... rounder" . did see some sparkles on cheeks when taking off make up later.

Completely forgot what the Superdrug one was called so didn't try that. Tried one from the Bloom range - horrible and chalky.

Maybe they're just not for me ... maybe I just need Armani?

Might just buy the Superdrug one later at £2 one can hardly gripe.

Am I expecting too much?

Forget getting a cheapo one. Stick to a good brand with good ingredients. Armani or By Terri.

I know you said you don"t want a foundation but I think illuminators work even better with foundation, even a very light one. Chanel Vitalumiere all the way on that front.

Men don't notice these things - ask your girlfriends !
