Size 16 - best tummy flattner?

I have a do in 2 weeks time.

I have a beautiful dress to wear to it but would like to flatten my tummy out (i.e. the bit a couple of inches below my waist) a bit so that I look a bit more less tubby streamlined

In your experience what is the best shapewear that will help me achieve this? Is this achievable when a size 16 (am sure all the shapewear I've seen is modelled on size 12 and less women) I have some tummy flattner pants from sainsburys and quite frankly they are, well, pants.

Help please!

These vests are good at smoothing out the bumps and sucking you in.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 16:18

thanks dexter73 could be better than pants, as then wouldn't get (even bigger) muffin top)

Any other suggestions greatly received ...

get some that come right up under yout tits.

Ewe · 07/12/2009 16:24

I am a size 14 and wear something similar to this when I want to flatten out my flabby tum and look thinner.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 16:26

I've got one of those CybilLiberty but it's now too big (hurrah), it's a Flexees but I always found it made me look more barrelled than flattened, although was nearly 2 stone heavier then so maybe would work better in smaller size

Go to M&S. Get measured. Get the all in one swimsuit-looking thing, costs about £35 - worth every penny - but don't tumble dry it!

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 16:27

oooh Ewe that is a good idea, looks lovely.

have just read reviews though Ewe and not sure it would be a good fit (shame) as I am 5 ft 7

They do quite a few different styles at big department stores, maybe try the John Lewis or Debenhams lingerie departments if you have one nearby?

You definitely do need to try on I think as sometimes they don't sit quite right for whatever reason and sizing can vary.

just looking at the M&S site at the "control slips" they look like they'd do the job although would feel like my nan circa 1962. All sold out online and anyhow don't have any G cups. Can't really afford a trip to Rigby and Peller where they cater for big norks but might see what Bravissimo have

I bought some high waisted control tight from M&S. £8 and they come up to your bra so no blobbing out. They were surprisingly comfortable.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 17:15

think my size 16 belly might need something a bit more sturdy than control tights ThingOne

Depends how blobby you are! I thought they were good. I hadn't worn control tights for a long time and was very impressed. I thought I might have to wear something else but the tights were impressive.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 17:24

rounded in a vaguely pregnant way rather than spare tyre-ish (until I sit down that is!!!)

No No No - sorry to disagree Cybil but I got one that did the tops of my thighs, bum, tum and up to tits - IT ROLLED DOWN!!!! It was a freakin' nightmare!

Shoshe · 07/12/2009 17:36

Believe it or not, had to run into town to get some hold it all in knickers to go with a dress, last minute sort of thing.

M&S had none my size, Primark was opposite, zipped in there, £5.00 a pair, bum to bra length, grabbed them thinking better than nothing. They are brilliant!, went back and bought 3 more pairs.

I am a 16 down from a 24 this year, so have quite awobbly tum, and really hold it all in, and wash up really well.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 07/12/2009 17:47

ooooh sounds good Shoshe (and wow! fantastic slimmage)
