Any hairdressers/colourists/home hair dye experts out there??

Ok i have a question....

Why when i dye my naturally dark blonde hair (its a base 6-7) to a medium brown - whether it be a cool or warm base, do my roots never take as well as the rest of my hair, resulting in a goldenish tone on the first inches of my hair???????

have you tried applying to only roots for 10 mins then applying to the rest for remaining time? my training a bit rusty but thats what id do, your hair is more porous on the lengths than the new hair of the roots, hth
