Can you wise and stylish ladies suggest things to go with this dress please?

This is the dress
It's for a dear friend of mine who is attending an end of January wedding for a close family member. She is an older lady and v stylish. We went shopping today and she tried several dresses including a red Karen Millen which was quite nice but a bit fussy. She liked this Coast dress but wants a jacket to go with it... short ish I think, as its a Jan wedding.

Can you suggest anything? Thanks

That's lovely.
I was going to suggest their Danuta cover up/bolero thing and I see they aLREADY HAVE (BOTTOM LEFT OF PIC)

something like this? though may be better with a shrug or longer length jacket given the detailing on that dress...

moondog · 28/11/2009 22:24

hOW ABOUT THIS from John Lewis who do a fab range of coats.

There is a fur jacket as well on that site but really that dress is going to look best with a sort of 50s style stole.

moondog · 28/11/2009 22:25

I wouldn't do satin on satin meself...

Moneyspider · 28/11/2009 22:26

Agree with moondog re Danuta with that dress

WHen you say jacket - do you mean full-on outerwear? Because the Danuta would look lovely, but it won't keep her very warm at a January wedding.

has she bought the dress yet? There is a £30 off voucher in this months Red magazine, no minimum spend.

Not full on outerwear, more a jacket for the church (1.30 wedding) which she can take off for the evening - which is more cocktaily dress. She doesnt really want black or fur. Thanks for the help so far!

Hmm - I suspect that this might be too beaded, but I reckon something in that sort of shape would work.
This is similar.

Silver sequins? Too much?
Red velvet (sod's law the red wouldn't go though). Also comes in blue.

JackieNo · 29/11/2009 00:19

WHat you're looking for, as much as shape, is a contrasting texture to the dress, I reckon, so velvet's good, sequins could work, brocade, even maybe leather or suede, though I think they're probably not formal enough for a wedding.

I'll show her all of these and feedback!
