Looking for a stylish bag to use as a change bag (please not an actual change bag)

Does such a bag exist - or is stylish change bag an oxymoron? I really don't want an actual change bag (sorry, but 95% of them are pretty hideous), but a bag that doesn't fill me with waves of shame evertime I leave the house . Any ideas please?

I quite like this Osprey bag and this one too. I used to have a Furla one that was the same shape and size but in a lighter tan colour which was great for throwing everything in but it would have been better in a darker brown as it got quite marked and scratched.

Anyway, give us something to go on... Is there a colour you prefer? Do you want something leather, or a fabric that can go in the washing machine and what's the budget?

They don't sell mine any more but Accessorize do some good affordable totes like this
www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/58951760&bklist=icat,5,shop,accessorize,alldaybags,plaindaybag

or this www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/58955826&bklist=icat,5,shop,accessorize,alldaybags,daybag

amongst others. Depends what you're after...

faustina · 28/11/2009 04:22

why not try a longchamps le pliage bag? They come in all sorts of colours, and are very light and comfortable to wear over the shoulder. Very well made too.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 28/11/2009 04:31

Depends on your style, but I am using an Animal laptop bag, a bit like this (but actually much better as it has bottle holders on it!).

I found, the one i have, has plenty of compartments for putting dirty nappies, cream etc, and later on, food, so it does not all float around together, two bit compartments for clean clothes and nappies, and then toys. And on the outside, underneath a flap, several easily accessible pockets (with zips for security) to put car keys, purse, other adult things, mesh on outside to put water bottle for you/dc.

I nicked it off DH last time, and loved it so much, i cannot bear the thought of buying a proper one, when this is perfect.

But, I am not bothered about girly, surfy is fine by me.

JustKeepSparkling · 28/11/2009 07:08

I'm looking for something similar, thanks for the Monsoon link, hadn't thought of there.
I quite like this one.

I want a zip fastening for security & want it big enough to fit the change mat+nappies roll-up thing i've got. Like it to have separate places for stuff too. May try and visit Monsoon later.

At the mo I have a cheap one from Primark that is actually perfect for the job but is falling apart now.

ceb80 · 28/11/2009 19:38

I have this one here
It is actually a changing bag but crucially doesn't look like one! Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a shoulder strap to put over the buggy handle bar.

saltyseadog · 28/11/2009 21:42

I love those Osprey ones - but they are more pricey than I had in mind for a change bag.

I guess I'd be willing to spend up to £125, although if I can get it cheaper then that would be lovely. My preference is for leather. Having said that I do like surfer style kit, so I'll have a look at Animal, White Stuff etc.

Any more ideas please ?

I bought this one for DH but ended up stealing it for myself! I like the fact that it is fairly neutral (so DH doesn't mind carrying it, when I let him use it ), it as the straps adjust to fit over a buggy handlebar, or just across me messangers-style. It has loads of pockets and has been big enough to haul around enough nappies, wipes, etc for my DTs.

LetThemEatCake · 29/11/2009 21:33

I just got this one and it is perfect - holds my 3yo's portapotty,my 2yo's pull-ups and my newborn's nappies, with separate compartments for my stuff. Loads of space. Quite fancy it in the plum too

dairymoo · 29/11/2009 21:43

Ooh, I like that one LTEC. Does it go over your shoulder comfortably though? Don't think I could be doing with it wresting in the crook of my elbow like the pic shows...

saltyseadog · 29/11/2009 21:47

Oooh yes LTEC - I think you could have struck gold with this one . I LOVE the plum.

yep, goes over the shoulder easily although possibly not as comfortably when wearing a bulky jacket, as I was today.

Gorgeous lining too - silly thing but it's a make-you-happy pattern. Outside zipped pocket so can get keys or whatever easily, plus another deep inside zipped compartment which separates the two sections of the bag. Two more pockets inside, both open.

I have honestly been on the hunt for a gorgeous bag for weeks - have bought and sent back at least 5, ranging in price from £50 to £600 - this is the hands-down winner!

Hel79 · 30/11/2009 21:29

Orla Kiely do lovely ones with long straps you can hang over the buggy or wear across your body when you are out and about without the pushchair. www.thepodcompany.com do a good selection and have got money off at the mo x

NickNemo · 30/11/2009 21:40

I am going to get this one as soon as I can sort out the shipping.

Pricey, but they hold masses of things. I saw it on a lady on the train and begged her for the name of the bag!!

nicolamumof3wisemen · 01/12/2009 18:42

have you looked at the babymel bags? they are gorgeous don't look like change bag at all, i have the black quilted hearts its fab, and two great pockets for juice cups that are insulated on outside one for ds2 and 3! practical as well

dairymoo · 03/12/2009 13:30

LTEC - in your search, did you come across any bags that were similar in size but had the option of a longer handle - possibly even on that could go across the body?

nicolamumof3wisemen · 04/12/2009 09:45

babymel

dairymoo · 04/12/2009 14:02

Sorry, those babymel ones look too much like change bags for me.

nicolamumof3wisemen · 04/12/2009 15:01

i realy don't do changing bags at all, this is the only one i liked!! and i hate change bags dangling off pushchairs so the stroller strap was great for me. Good luck in finding one you like
