Am I a granny for wearing 100 denier woolly tights?

Like these:
www.marksandspencer.com/Denier-Thermal-Opaque-Tights-Wool/dp/B002F7BE60?ie=UTF8&ref=ord_cart_shr&mnS Brand=core

LOVE THEM. So much more than other lower denier black tights, comfy, don't ladder, warmer etc.

My DH says they look like school girl tights, I point out that as a school girl I was very busy looking cold fashionable so I wore see through tights!

Anyway, granny or normal?

I am 25 BTW.

Lulumama · 25/11/2009 16:57
  • love, not look !!
Maize · 25/11/2009 16:58

Hah!

They are sooooo comfy no?

And strangely long, I can pull mine up to my bra for some reason (I restrain myself obv).

Your dh is right. Why aren't you wearing stockings and suspenders at all times?

I love my woolly tights.

Pineapplechunks · 25/11/2009 17:00

A granny? No, you warm and comfortable.

NorkilyChallenged · 25/11/2009 17:01

I actually used to wear these as a schoolgirl and student

I am secretly hankering after some more, have 60 denier but they're not cosy enough.

Am now 36 though.

Only brown or black at M&S, any recommendations for other places that have them in other colours?

NorkilyChallenged · 25/11/2009 17:01

Hang on, there's leg stroking going on?

IvanaDK · 25/11/2009 17:10

I was always told it's a European thing (I'm Danish)!

Today at the school gates I saw several bare legged mums...

I have always worn what you lot call woolly tights, I just call them thick tights. Any less than 40 denier and I have holes in them within minutes...

BikeRunSki · 25/11/2009 18:59

I am 39 and wear wooly tights. I am warm. Black, brown and navy for work, purple and green for play.

Maize · 25/11/2009 19:36

NorkilyChallenged these look nice and I have ordered from this website before.

Or these?

Glad to know I am not a granny! Just very comfy and sensible...

they did have some lovely cashmere coloured ones in harrods last week. a bit pricey tho

tvaerialmagpiebin · 25/11/2009 19:52

You are deffo not a granny. I have been after some of these for ages so am very grateful to you for posting the link. I used to wear these in navy, for school, about a million years ago, and having some of these would be the only reason to take off my jeans.

AngelinaJolly · 25/11/2009 19:55

Maize- I've been looking for the Merino tights- thanks for link . Defo not a granny- shivery pale flesh in a northerly wind is not a good look IMO.

NorkilyChallenged · 25/11/2009 20:33

Maize - thanks for the links. I like the price on the first pair you linked but they don't seem to be woolly, just 100 denier (something on teh website calls them "an alternative" to woolly tights) and I'm hankering after woolly.

Not hankering enough to spend £22 on a pair though I must say.

NorkilyChallenged · 25/11/2009 20:34

Sorry that sounded a bit grumpy - I mean the £22 ones are lovely but I don't think I can justify that when I'm highly likely to snag them on my car door or some such nonsense

Feelingoptimistic · 25/11/2009 21:12

I love thick woolly tights !!! And I like to think I am fashionable...

I don't understand the whole British thing about not dressing for the weather. I saw a girl at the bus stop tonight and she was complaining to her boyfriend that she was cold - but she was only wearing a cardigan !!!

tethersend · 25/11/2009 21:27

I live in trendy east London, and wear the same tights. They appear to have gone full circle and are now de rigueur in Hoxton square, so technically, we are cutting edge, and anyone who's not wearing them is sooooo last year.

tiredfeet · 25/11/2009 23:25

I love them! have been wearing them for a couple of years now, proper thick woolly ones, used to get the odd comment when I wore them for work, but mainly positive. So much better, warmer, no worry about laddering them etc. Also, easier to get away with wearing short skirts, and my legs are my least bad feature. and I also, secretly, like the fact they remind me of being at primary school

there's some nice ones in Boots from time to time, and I got some in H&M too recently that are Ok too.
