distressed look jeggings

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 12:49

I bought a pair yesterday

DH says they were a MISTAKE

because nobody wears stonewashed or distressed look jeggings

this is the first indication he has ever given of having any interest in style, so I'm not sure I trust him

should I return them

twas these ones:

firstly, how old are you?, personally, i could not pull them off but i am verging on 40.

secondly, do you like them, do you feel good in them?

browntrout · 25/11/2009 12:59

I am afraid that I think bleach washed jeggings are a fashion step too far. They would look dreadful on me and I am not sure who, apart from someone under 13, might be able to get away with them. However, that is just my view and other stuff I have previously set my face against has looked lovely on friends and I have been completely won over. Do you like them? If they have provoked a reaction in your otherwise disinterested DH then maybe they are worthy of comment - good or bad!

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 13:00

I'm 31 and a size 8 with fairly good legs (belly and saggy arms are another story)

I liked them but am now worried I'd look silly wearing them

You have the figure - do you have the attitude?

Men are generally conservative about clothes (DH has admitted he didn't like my tulip skirts to begin with, but now thinks they look good).

I have to admit, the only people I have seen looking good in them are edgy 19/20 students at the uni near where I work. You need to be COOL to carry them off I think.

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 13:05

I'm definitely not COOL

damn it, I'll just return them

Thanks all, much appreciated!

This thread has made me realise that I now accept I'll never be cool

if I couldn't pull it off in my twenties

I won't now with grubby handprints

avril don't be silly you are a waiflike youth. i've got topshop jeggings and i'm nearly 41 and no sylph.

deepest indigo is probably easier to carry off, i tried some grey ones and it wasn't right really.

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 13:52

thank you fishie,

and thanks for the tip, I was just staring at jeggings online and wondering what colour I could carry off

notyummy · 25/11/2009 13:58

Wise words from Fishie.

I am not as slim as you Avril, and older, but am still wearing leggings (dark), footless tights and thick coloured tights. Even if the stone washed stuff is a step too far, there are plenty of other things out there you could wear with your figure/youth and look great.

AvrilH · 25/11/2009 16:37

Thank you notyummy!!!

I too, would be distressed in jeggings.

I could not carry any off. Ever.

AnyFucker · 25/11/2009 16:40

avril, I am 44 and have treggings from TopShop

but they are a very thick, matte black and very flattering, more like very skinny trousers

what about something like that

stonewash is not flattering on anyone

poshsinglemum · 26/11/2009 02:18

i like em. they are dark so it's ok.

DanDruff · 26/11/2009 08:55

im with AF
i haev those too -slightly ribbed

clankypanky · 27/11/2009 13:24

Im 30 and Im sorry but i just think jeggings are plain WRONG!!!

dairymoo · 27/11/2009 13:28

I have some grey ones from H&M . They are slightly worn-in looking and have a short zip at the bottom. I think they look great, and TBH don't care what anyone else thinks cos I like them!

faustina · 27/11/2009 13:31

oh god. I am even older than Anyfucker and I am sriously contemplating wearing very dark blue next jeggings on a 10 hour flight tomorrow, with a long jumper and boots. Now I am worried. Would it be so very bad? (I am size 6). Will the person meeting me at the other end throw up when he sees? That part does matter. It's just they are so comfortable

AnyFucker · 27/11/2009 15:11

oi, faustina !!

even older than me ?

I am in the prime of my life, I'll have you know

And so are you

Wear what you want (especially if size 6

notyummy · 27/11/2009 16:27

Nowt wrong with jeggings if slim and sassy - I have seen them worn well. The stonewashed ones are generally a step too far though IMHO, and very few people I have seen in them really suit them - they may not make them hideous, but they don't actually flatter. Dark ones can look great with the right figure.

DanDruff · 27/11/2009 16:28

i wear em a lot
am 39

AvrilH · 27/11/2009 16:36

I can't believe my DH was right

this sets a worrying precedent

OP posts:
faustina · 28/11/2009 07:15

thank you Anyfucker for the encouragement. I have them on but I am still thinking about it. Quite agree about the prime of life!
