Leggings....American Apparel

I've had about 10 pairs of leggings this year that have mostly been returned to shops because they were either saggy at the knees, or they slid down while i was walking (you get the idea - they were crap fitting)!

I had these from all over the place, M&S, Next, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Topshop are a few i can remember.

After reading recommendations on here for American Apparel I finally got chance to go into the store at weekend and tried on some leggings - they are bloody fantastic! Fit right and are the most comfy ones I have worn. They stay in place too. There are a bit pricey at £22 a pair, but I think they are worth it. They are quite thick too and don't stretch over your leg so they hide my corned beef legs well

If you are searching for leggings and had as many disasters as I have, then I can recommend them - worth a try. I'm ashamed to admit how much finding these pleased me....how sad am I

American Apparel was the first place I went to for leggings - only started wearing them when I started my maternity leave! - because they do casual clothing well BUT I have to say, my first pair got a hole in the bum and the second pair sag at the knee after a couple of wears, just like my cheaper Topshop ones...they didn't at first but after washing, I do think AA clothes suffer.

Am a big American Apparel fan also! Have lots and lots, the leggings are the best ever in terms of longevity - and worth the extra cash for feel and fit.

Their other clothes are pretty fab too and great for everyday and even gym wear!

what size shall I get if a 10/12 thinking medium? Or are they big fitting?

marthastewart · 24/11/2009 13:34

I am a 6 and xtra small is mine so yes think if you are 10/12 medium should be good.

They have different combinations of fabrics in different items , some have three - like cotton, lycra and rayon and will indicate if these shrink on label.

The leggings as far as I remember are 100% cotton so you should be fine with your true size as long as you wash at 30 degrees and go easy on the tumble dry.

They also have some pretty fab tights! Not on commission - promise!

I think the fitting is just right, so a medium if you are a 10/12 would be fine I think.

they are sold out anyway. I need to find some decent brown leggings...they say 2-3 week wait, might have to put up with a lesser product.

Great tights and leggings, definitely, and t-shirts with a lovely cut. Shopping online is slightly frustrating, though - often things are out of stock.

If there is a shop near enough to you to justify trip would consider it worth it. We have had one open recently enough in Dublin and it's great to browse in, though not ideal with small kids in tow!

DanDruff · 24/11/2009 20:43

wehn i went intot he store I though ti twas all rather cack quality tbh

AnyFucker · 24/11/2009 20:45

how long are they ?

I only like ankle-length leggings that are properly ankle-length on my stupidly long legs (am 5ft 10)

triffictits · 24/11/2009 21:15

AF I am 5ft 11 and that was one of the things I love about them - they are ankle length for me - I have a 32inch inside leg.

8 - can you get to a store - I bought the brown ones in the shop. Couldn't find any decent ones anywhere - M&S were the only place I found them and they were awful.

The quality is really good I think, much better than Next/M&S
