Ok, so I have a pretty big night out next week - school reunion - argh

Obv i need to look 17 again - this will not be easy. (I'm 36!) I'm 5'3'', size 14, ample norkage, belly that needs to be hidden. Legs and arms ok.

I have an idea in my head of what I want to wear - black skinny jeans/trousers (possibly shiny?), shoe boots (borrowing my friend's so don't need to buy these), and here's where I'm struggling, I want a black sleeveless/short-sleeved top, maybe a bit drapey but longline and kind of fitted around my hips, over my bum - iykwim? Do kind of slinky looking but able to hide post 3dc baby belly...

does that sound like a top that exists? I've tried tons of websites but can't find it. Am open to other colours too.

Please PLEASE please throw your suggestions at me!

You know, I'd say a definate no to shiny trousers. Are you able to do dresses? this is lovely, and would hide a multitude of sins

TutTutter · 23/11/2009 20:14

the debenhams site is not working atm, but you can see a top that might work here www.shopstyle.co.uk/browse/shortsleeve-tops?fl=d0&fl=r201&fts=cowl

top left

DanDruff · 23/11/2009 20:16

god not that dress on anyone over a size 8
id do a skirt with opaques and a looser top witha tux or velevt jcket

DanDruff · 23/11/2009 20:18

this t with the trousers in OP?

go to zara they have lots

TutTutter · 23/11/2009 20:18

yy, that dress would be shocking with norkage or on anyone not skinny

tentlike

LovelyWalters · 23/11/2009 20:25

I would wear a dress, yep, but not that one - it'd make me look pregnant. Haven't tried any long tops with belts, are they flattering?

had looked at debenhams before and seen a couple I liked, peed off that the site is down just now!

what about this?

traceybath · 23/11/2009 20:32

I suspect too expensive.

But a very good label for curvaceous ladies - also do tops. India Knights always going on about their clothes.

good outfit for inspiration perhaps

River Island - Corsage and Lace Vest - looks better than it sounds! Can't link to it for some reason - it's under tops: party tops.

May be a bit tent like - www.allsaints.com/product/?all=1&page=1&category_id=115&&prod_desc_id=5051214526232&position=5

TutTutter · 23/11/2009 20:32

i think the ruching/draping of the one i linked to could be flattering

i'd avoid belts unless you have a great waist

TutTutter · 23/11/2009 20:34

quite like the warehouse one

others would make you look pregnant

LovelyWalters · 23/11/2009 20:43

traceybath - LOVE that first one but way too dear for me!

Ladyface - deffo yy to the Wallis one - that could be the one

have found these - like them both, which is best?

OP posts:
fin42 · 23/11/2009 20:46

I was going to link to the Wallis one but Ladyface beat me to it. I have a similar one from asda which is plain so not good for a 'big night out' but the cut is very flattering and I think I'm similar proportions to the OP by the sound of your description.

eshermummy · 23/11/2009 20:48

I second the link to River Island - was in there today and they had lots of embellished tees/long line vests that would look great worn with black skinny jean.

There are loads of sequinned blazer/tux things about at the mo - I tried on this one in top shop and thought it was really nice as is very understated.

They also had a very cute cropped fitted wool tux jacket in River Island - had a corsage rosette brooch thing on the lapel but you could take that off.

I know you said it's a school reunion but depends where it is being held really - I quite like the skinny jeans and embellished top look coz it's more of a casual glam thing. I haven't been to a school reunion but presumably noone wants to look as if they have pulled out all the stops/it's the only thing they've been invited to all year!!!

Ronaldinhio · 23/11/2009 20:49

ok what about....although you'll all crucify me for this
one of my friends is roughly your size at the weekend she wore
wide leg trousers...just flannel black heavy ones
brogues
lace body from topshop with nude vest thingy from marks underneath
jacket
she looked great, that body thing was really flattering...I didn't know they did them again and would never have suggested but she did look great...t'was more a mix of texture rather than a whores breakfast though

pointydogg · 23/11/2009 20:52

this?

LovelyWalters · 23/11/2009 20:52

the night is just in a nice bar so I don't want to overdress - a bit of sparkle would be fine but I'd hate to turn up looking totally ott

most important to be be comfy and not adjusting myself every 5 minutes, also have to be able to wear a bra!

it's all v nervewracking so just want to feel confident....(there'll be a few 'hunks' from my year there too...how amusing...!

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 23/11/2009 20:58

ok what about long shirt here tight jeans and shoe boots?

LovelyWalters · 23/11/2009 21:00

Ronaldhino, sorry but that sounds awful for me - brogues? really? I don't need anything to make me look any more fat and stumpy than I already am

I'm sure your friend looked great but that's just not me...

I have a cute little dark grey velvet blazer to wear, i do like that look eshermummy

pointy - that top's too short, feel it would cut me in half

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 23/11/2009 21:45

to be honest I'm loving the stridey brogues atm and was surprised to see her in them ditto wide leg trews
but she looks terrible in tight trousers dumpy and parsnipy so the wider trew asnd tighter top playing up her norks worked
i said you'd flame me

heartofgold · 23/11/2009 22:23

skinny jeans/blazer so rock chicky, yes? this? or you want something more fitted/defined under the bust?

heartofgold · 23/11/2009 22:28

this looks as though it could have potential, but you'd want a good heavyweight fabric and warehouse seems disappointingly flimsy recently.

LovelyWalters · 24/11/2009 08:00

yy to those last two tops heartofgold, like them both

think I'll go to the shops later and actually try on some stuff

ronaldhino - not flaming you, honest! wish I had the guts to wear stuff that was a bit out of the norm, but I know I'd just feel short fat and frumpy. God, I hope no-one describes me as 'parsnipy' - makes me think of triangular dimply dumpy legs

OP posts:
traceybath · 24/11/2009 18:16

what about this?

badietbuddy · 24/11/2009 18:18

O no no (not that my suggestion was any better). Look at how thick that makes the model look
