How to get in a 4x4 wearing a skirt ...

So please tell me, how do you get in a 4x4 when you are wearing a skirt ? I just cant do it with any style ...

Long floaty ones are probably OK but I've got a knee length denim one which I cant seem to manage to get in or out of the car with any dignity.

Can it be done ? Or am I resigned to a life wearing jeans ? ...

doesn't your have the foot rail thing to stand on? I think I used to sort of step ont hat then sit down, I really can't rememeber!

I think the trouble you're having might because your shoes aren't high enough. You need these to give you a bit of a leg up.

Yes, there is a bar thing, but if the skirts too tight it end up halfway up my thigh. I tried nonchalently jumping in the other day.

Well thats the thing Slarty, I wanted a change from my usual attire of jeans or cords to something a bit different.

I think I just need to practise a bit more.

I feel that the secret is to stop caring, hitch up the skirt and do it quick as a flash (ha ha) concentrating on using the arm muscles to pull you up and in to position before anyone manages to see a flash of skin or underwear. Voila.

have got running boards now and a slightly lower vehicle so that helps a bit but used to love watching friends try to get in and out of my old defender (which was a bit higher than average) without a step

You do the same manoeuvre as the one they used to teach girls being finished at Lucie Clayton's - you put your bottom on the seat and then lift your legs up and into the car.

when the seat is a good foot or so higher than your bottom it is a challenge!

Yup, you turn around and slide yourself up, back to the driver (using one leg to push up with if need be), and then you swivel around into position with both legs together.

I agree with the Parisienne. Back up to the running board facing outwards, slide bum onto seat facing outwards, turn and slip legs neatly underneath the steering wheel. Inevitably though, no matter how hard you try, you end up with some kind of mud line on some part of you.
