EBay - how can clothes be cheaper than in shops?

Not sure if I'm being thick here but how can things that are currently in the shops e.g. FC Bex dress £130 and White Co cashmere socks £25, be on sale on Ebay for £65 and £15 as new with tags? Are they fakes or how do they do it? Wondering if I should be buying them on Ebay or not? Thanks

well, the White Company socks are often in the sale from last year and/or may be seconds or the company that makes them may be selling them off.

I guess it could apply to french Connection stuff (the supplier may be selling them off or it could be a private individual).

Many things on ebay are stolen from shops.

Some things might be unwanted gifts that can't be returned (at least that's what sellers sometimes say about children's clothes) or impulse purchases it would be difficult to return, perhaps because of distance or it being too late to take them back.

I think some of the current Boden stuff might have been bought at a heavy discount. Sometimes it might make more sense to sell stuff on than return it (if you return 1 item in a 4 for the price of 3 offer, you would get little or mothing back).

If you get a staff discount you can buy stuff and resell it.

Forgot all about me asking about this! Thanks for replies - I guess I am just a bit worried about Ebay but tempted by bargain clothes. Cant help think though that if it seems too good to be true ....... . Thanks.

be careful because there are also some very well-presented fakes. For example, most new Karen Millen stuff you see on ebay is fake, though it will be perfectly presented down to the shop tags.

EldonAve · 24/11/2009 10:06

fakes
nicked
seconds
from outlets

wannaBe · 24/11/2009 10:09

most will either be fakes or stolen.
