have bought knitted dress - do I HAVE to wear it with leggings and boots?

I have stepped outside my comfort zone and bought a knitted dress, similar to this. I don't really do the leggings and boots look. is there any alternative?

Or should I just pop into M&S and head for Per Una ?

thats an odd dress

nevergoogledragonbutter · 18/11/2009 22:00

what about tights and plimsoles?

giddykipper · 18/11/2009 22:00

I really like that.

I wear mine with jeans. But then I'm definitely a casual dresser.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 18/11/2009 22:02

actually i think boots would be best.

tethersend · 18/11/2009 22:02

Oooh, nice dress.

Opaques and ankle boots.

Please don't wear leggings. Unless they are sequinned

KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:04

its not that exact dress, i cant find it on their website. its a little looser on the tum, scoop neck, long sleeves, light grey wool / cotton mix. comes to about mid thigh on me

I'm afraid i am too old for plimsoles, but i LOVE jeans. That's why this is a departure for me, as i don't normally do casual skirts/ dresses, I live in jeans outside the office [in boring middle aged rut]

ok, can do opaques. please advise on suitable ankle boots, preferably with some sort of heel (don't do flats)

and if jeans, what footwear?

fin42 · 18/11/2009 22:09

It's a nice style. Get some opaque or woolly tights (depending on the weight of the dress), and maybe some shoeboots

KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:14

i see that SJP wears shoe boots with a short dress

suspect its warmer where she lives

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 18/11/2009 22:19

that is a fab dress

you could wear it with opaque tights and shoe-boots

or platform heels with footless tights

or ballet pumps

if you don't do opaques, for a night out, slap some false tan on your legs and go bare with heels

how old are you ? if you are under 25, even knee-length socks and pumps

no jeans, however

SixtyFootDoll · 18/11/2009 22:21

I love that dress
Agree with AF
High ankleboots/ opaques
footless tights
Go for it!

AnyFucker · 18/11/2009 22:22

I want that dress

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 18/11/2009 22:23

Ankleboots and thick tights would be fab.

Nice frock.

KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:23

you could wear it with opaque tights and shoe-boots

sounds good

cant walk in big platforms and too old for ballet pumps ( kids shoes)

I DO Do opaques, love 'em. i am WAY past 25 . As in I have 2 kids in their 20s

no jeans even for the elderly, AF???

OP posts:
SixtyFootDoll · 18/11/2009 22:25

me too AF
my finger is hovering over it!!

AnyFucker · 18/11/2009 22:25

no jeans with that dress, I meant

the dress is quite body-con, jeans would ruin the fit

ok then, opaques and medium size heels then

and ballet pumps are not kids shoe

KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:25

ok you guys, find me ankle boots please

not too clumpy as i have skinny legs

and not too high as i am old

( can you see why i live in jeans???)

OP posts:
tethersend · 18/11/2009 22:27

Promise never to link to a Liz Jones article again without prior warning... my eyes!!!

I would go for something like this (maybe a bit too high), this or this

KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:27

actual dress is less body con, has a sort of pleat under bust so less tight on tummy

but you are right, the belt of my jeans showed up a bit. damn, so no jeans then [sulk]

OP posts:
KristinaM · 18/11/2009 22:29

thansk for links

sorry about link to article by old bag in hate rag, i just looked at the photo , honest

AnyFucker · 18/11/2009 22:31

these
are good

the ankle strap will fill out your skinny pins, the heel is blocky and not too high

very sexy and not too mutton

You could wear flat ankle boots too, for everyday wear, if you have skinny legs.
