Not a period, as such - more a light, sludgy discharge - old blood, maybe.

Any replies very much appreciated.

I am no expert at all, but i think they don't want you to be on at all when you have it as it can mean that they can't get a good sample of cells for analysis. I think the best time is mid cycle, so maybe wait 2 weeks?

And this is a style and beauty question because...?

just what I was thinking, since when has a smear been anything to do with style and beauty?

agree could affect sample and not particularly nice for person who has to do it either

I will be mid cyle, but still having this light discharge the past couple months thrughout cycle.

I was meaning to see Dr about that, anyway, so maybe I'll let he know beforehand and see what she advises?
