Hi!
It's my annual appraisal this week and the MD is coming up especially.
I need a dress which is going to show him that I can be organised and professional (and deserve a pay-rise ).
Criteria as follows: not too short or tight, but not too boring or officy, can be ordered online with overnight delivery and not too expensive.
Not asking much I know

What kind of working environment are you in? What's your colouring/figure? Do you have a budget?

Gloria42 · 18/11/2009 10:54

It's an office, but smart casual, not suits every day.
I am 5' 8", size 12-14, probably athletic would be a good description (big shoulders)
Budget would be £40ish?
thanks

is he appraising your outfit or your perfomance at work?

do you work for vogue?

Gloria42 · 18/11/2009 11:46

I was just trying to make a good impression, sorry if you don't agree

We don't live in a perfect world and people are influenced by how you present yourself (Florence winces at the memory of her boss informing her that her work outfits often had baby drool on the back and that she needed to smarten up...)

£40 is a low budget, especially for delivery tomorrow and I haven't seen anything online that would fit the brief. Sorry, Gloria.

Another option would be to get your hair professionally blow dried (and perhaps book a manicure) and treat yourself to a new lippy. You'll feel/look a bit more groomed than usual (apologies if you get up every day at 5am to get ready and could not be more groomed if you tried) and that might give you the confidence boost you need.

Go get that rise!

it just seems a bit odd to buy a special outfit for an appraisal

sorry, not helpful to you I know

I work in a clinical environment so don't need to worry about such things, lab coats & hairnets cover a multitude of sins

I noticed the other day that Nina of Neurons fame has some rather nice detailing on her nipped-in waist lab coat, TF, and let's not forget her bizarre hair style. Times have clearly changed and you might want to start thinking about accessorising that head gear if you want to get promoted.

Hope your appraisal went well, Gloria.
