Jeans for pears

Montifer · 14/11/2009 20:55

Suggestions please for jeans which will suit my decidedly pear shape.

Am a 12 ish waist and a generous 14ish hips / arse, my saddlebags being the widest bit by far Short legs seem to make it extra tricky.

I really don't think bootcut works for me and tend to go for wide legged trousers but am willing to be convinced otherwise if there is a magic pair of bootlegs out there for me.

Had a disastrous shopping effort last week and need inspiration or perhaps to face the truth that jeans aren't going to work.

I have magic bootcuts they are Gap long and lean and they work quite well, even on my short legs. I have a big bum, big hips and big thighs compared to my smallish waist and these are the only jeans I've found that fit really well.

Im a pear. I like Oasis jeans. Their garnet ones are good for casual.

These are very flattering. I have about 3 pairs of these LOVE THEM!

The sizes tend to be different depending on the style. Im a 12-14 on bottom. I have garnet in 12 and are big and scarlet in 12 which are tight snug

dexter73 · 14/11/2009 21:17

Curvy jeans from Gap. Get them tight though as they stretch.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/11/2009 21:18

If you try the long and lean in Gap try on some curvy jeans while you're there. I've had more pairs of long and lean than I care to admit, but found them a wee bit low after I had DS. Was very pleasantly surprised with the cut of the curvy jean (this was the second version of 'curvy', they had them a few years back and were an awful fit).

I've got oasis scarlett jeans too - nice for 'smart' jeans and the rinse is quite flattering.

I am a pear. I love 7s. Expensive but worth it; mine have been going strong for 5 years now

bitofadramaqueen · 14/11/2009 21:19

X-post!

dexter73 · 14/11/2009 21:24

Another fan of curvy jeans bitofadramaqueen! I like the long and lean too and have also just bought some Boyfriend jeans from Gap which are v. nice.

duckyfuzz · 14/11/2009 21:28

yes to curvy jeans from gap, they are fab

Montifer · 15/11/2009 09:57

Thanks all.

Had forgotten about Oasis, had my 'favourite jeans' pair from them years ago, was slimmer in those days though.

Have never tried Gap jeans, I don't think I qualify for long and lean but will go and check out their wares.

If that doesn't work I give up

Ah, don't be put off by the 'long and lean' name - I can assure you I'm neither! The good thing about Gap jeans now is they do most styles in leg inches, good if you're not a bog standard 'regular'.

piratecat · 15/11/2009 11:14

i am the same, i always find boyfriend style or slouch to suit me better. I cannot wear anything that hugs my knee, like the bootcut ones, as when it goes into the wide bootcut bit it makes my thighs look huge.

peacocks have some lovely winter slouch ones in.

Skimummy · 15/11/2009 15:55

Agree Gap long and lean are pretty good.

If you want to spend a bit more, can recommend Seven For All Mankind Dojo jeans, J Brand Love Story jeans (although these are very flared) and Citizens of Humanity Faye jeans. The Dojo's are my every day jeans though and I am extremely pear-shaped! They do last - I have had one pair for almost 7 years!

duckyfuzz · 15/11/2009 15:56

I find long and lean have quite a low rise, curvy are a bit deeper. I have also found monsson jeans to be quite pear friendly in the past

Montifer · 17/11/2009 10:51

Right that's it, diet starts today!

Oasis Garnet were a very nearly but waistband too gapey, otherwise would have been a very flattering fit although I'm not keen on spending £45 on trousers that have holes in . Scarlet good but not quite right, Gap Curvy nearly right but the flaw is definitely my fat arse and not the jeans.

2lbs a week 'til Christmas and then I'll hit the sales!

I am the same size as you Montifer - 12 waist and 14 bottom with short legs. I wear Matalan Indigo Blue Bootcut jeans. I go for the 32 leg and wear with heels to make my legs look longer. They are slightly low waisted so I have a pair of spanx to stop the dreaded muffin top (spanx are very light and comfy so ok for day to day wear). They are the most flattering jeans I have ever had and best of all they are only £14!

notyummy · 17/11/2009 11:56

Another Gap Long and Lean devotee here - indigo blue are flattering.

Also, Top Shop skinny flare, worn with heels, look great.

I am 10 on top and 12 on bottom - classic pear.

Montifer · 18/11/2009 18:33

Well Matalan has come up trumps, thanks Nicki

Couldn't find the Indigo Blue ones but the Falmer Slouch are pretty much the perfect fit for me at the moment and for the princely sum of £12.

Would like a pair in black, but fat beggars can't be choosers.
