What size jeans should I buy?

My waist is 26.5 inches.

So should I buy bigger or smaller?

Depends on your waist to hip ratio? I have a 30 inch waist (i.e. no waist) but wear size 28 jeans because by bum is a size 8 to 10.

Erm hips are 34 inches or so...

So what does that mean?

At risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, can't you try a few different sizes on and see which ones fit? Or if you're buying on t'internet buy bigger and smaller and send the one that doesn't fit back.

Or am I missing something here??

Sizes vary so much from brand to brand (and even from style to style within the same brands) that its impossible to tell.
