Got two dresses - which one shall I keep

I just brought two dresses home:
Number 1
Number 2

Which one shall I keep?

I need something dressy for a few 40ths and xmas do. They both look very nice on me (which is an unusual bonus). If the first, I think I need a wide patent belt, perhaps grey or blue. Any ideas where I can get one?

first one

I like

this with silver accessories

this with a completely different bold colour - red shoes?

this although might accentuate hips?

There are a few lovely full length ones on there but might be a bit OT for 40ths depending on venue?

YouDoughnut · 11/11/2009 21:48

Thanks geordieminx. I like the second and third, though you might be right about the hips. Might pop into Coast tomorrow again and see if I can try them.

I'm now started a new thread here. I feel like I'm hogging S&B at the moment.

number 1

traceybath · 12/11/2009 11:25

I agree the first one is a little officey.

I do also think you could find a nicer dress but then I'm a bit off black at the moment.

But if you like black I've got this one in black.

Its very flattering and looks cool with plum tights and high black patent shoes.

tinkerbellesmuse · 12/11/2009 17:43

Definitely number 1 - no. 2 looks cheap.

I don't think you need a belt with it just a really really fab peair of shoes and an oversized clutch bag. Perfect

mrsshackleton · 12/11/2009 17:49

No 1

cookielove · 12/11/2009 17:51

prefer number 1 much nicer, number 2 sent my internet crazy and is dullllllll

upahill · 12/11/2009 17:59

Sorry I don't like either. Unless you have arms like Michelle Obama dress 2 is not going to do anyone any favours. Dress no 1 looks cheap with the silk top. Both not very interesting.

InterruptingKid · 12/11/2009 18:01

number one

AnnaSui · 12/11/2009 18:43

nothing comes up when i click on dress 1.

dress two looks nice, not wow, just nice, but if you felt lovely in it, then that would be the wow.

wish I could see dress 1. what's it called?

YouDoughnut · 12/11/2009 19:23

I hate being so bloody undecisive. I tried both on today for MIL (yes, I know, hardly the best fashion focus group) and she loved number 2 and thought number 1 was boring too. I'm now wondering if it's anything to do with the length. I'm only 5'3 and number one goes just below my knees and perhaps that's what makes it a bit frumpy in their eyes. After a day in Brent Cross looking for other dresses or a belt and not finding either, I feel a bit bleh now.

AnnaSui, the first one is called Hanette.

Traceybath - I do like the one you linked too and I saw it the other day but only had size 8 left.

Keep them both if you like them both. You will find occasion to wear them I'm sure.

Problem solved! NEXT!!!

YouDoughnut · 12/11/2009 22:46

I do have arms like Michelle Obama. Not her budget though. Number 2 is going back tomorrow.

Number 1, definately. No 2 could be any randon balck dress - No 1 looks a bit different/unusual/special.

upahill · 12/11/2009 23:03

Lol youdoughnut.... I have neither the arms or the budget of Ms Obama but what I think is -all though I wasn't keen on either they obviously would look different once on. You must choose the one you feel fab in. I like Nelliethellie's idea about getting Red magazine. Top Tip that !!
