I've just bought a fantastic pair of trousers for apple shapes

I'm an extreme apple, I'm possibly even a brand new shape called "sphere" as my waist is bigger than my hips. I've just bought these and they are great. Usually if trouser fit me at the waist they are like clown trousers on my hips but these are nice and snug. I've only worn them twice so I'm not sure how well they will stand up to all the kneeling and crawling that goes with having a toddler, but so far they are very comfy.

Someone on another thread had a 20% discount code (OKMAG), and a free delivery code (free22). Thank you for that, I ought to go back and find your name to give you proper credit but I'm too lazy busy.

Bumping for other apples. I know you're out there, I can't be the only wide-waisted one.

Oooh! I'm not an apple...apaently I'm a "skittle" but those trousers do look good...and I'm Loving the codes!

noddyholder · 06/11/2009 22:21

Wallis sizing usually biggish I like those did you need a smaller size?

bran · 06/11/2009 22:27

I don't think they came up particularly big. By measurement I'm a 14 around the hips/bum and a 20/22 around the waist (attractive I think you'll agree), these fit me perfectly in a size 18. I found their tops came up quite big, but I had been forewarned about that so bought them smaller than usual.

It was IK who had the codes everyone. She's a bit of a bitch volatile, but she knows where the money is so keep on her good side.

I like them - but are velvet trews really okay to wear?

bran · 07/11/2009 15:24

They're not very deep-pile velvet cornsilk. They look like moleskin, but not as heavy. They don't have that two-tone look that you get with a deep velvet when the pile gets rubbed the wrong way. They are definitely day rather than evening wear. They are warmer than my heavy cotton trousers but not as warm or thick as wool trousers.

I don't know how well they will wear as I've only worn them twice so far. I'm hoping I don't end up with bald patches on the knees and bum.

Thanks bran, good to hear that someone else is two very different sizes on waist and hips...
My hips are only 5" bigger than my waist so getting trousers to fit my waist which don't hang off my hips is a nightmare.

Think I will go and try these on, mail order no good for me. Will also check out New Look.

Here's hoping we;ll get some more suggestions.

bran · 07/11/2009 15:39

Pannacotta my waist is an inch bigger than my hips. Like I said earlier, I'm a sphere.

bran tbh when I'm wearing tight jeans, I look like my hips/thighs are smaller than my waist, so same thing really.

I am a size 10 hips and size 14 waist, so it's a real bummer to find anything which fits!

Am considering investing in one of those control tube thingies, just to hold my tummy in if I want to wear something fitted/posh...

TwoToTango · 07/11/2009 16:24

Do Wallis do free returns if they don't fit?

TwoToTango · 07/11/2009 16:29

Just found it on website - returns are free

TwoToTango · 07/11/2009 16:36

Am i doing something wrong - when I put the free delivery code it, it shows on the screen but at the end, just before you click confirm and pay, it shows a delivery charges of £4?

cornsilkwearscorsets · 07/11/2009 16:53

Are they smart enough for work then?

bran · 07/11/2009 17:11

I'm the wrong person to ask cornsilk, I used to wear jeans and trainers to work. They are certainly the smartest trousers that I currently own, but TBH the smart benchmark is set very low in my wardrobe. The cut is quite casual/jeans but I'm sure that with the right top they would be fine for most offices but possibly not quite suit-like enough for a very conservative law firm or merchant bank.

I'm not sure why it's not working TTT, it did for me. You haven't selected the quicker (pay more) delivery have you? Perhaps the code has run out, although I only used it a few days ago.

Pannacotta, I have a vest thing for tummy control. It works better than big pants IMO as there is no danger that it will roll itself down at an inopportune moment. Plus, it's soooooooo much easier when I need to wee.

lol at smart benchmark

mejon · 07/11/2009 21:22

TTT - I had that problem too (I've ordered them in Petite being a short-arse). I rang their customer services dept who said you couldn't use 2 different codes on one purchase. Had a quick look on here for some more and found this. Look for duckyfuzz's post and click on the Guardian vouchers link and it gives the code WLVC2 for 20% off and free delivery. It says that the code was only valid for one day but I used it this morning and have had my confirmation email so fingers crossed!

cyteen · 07/11/2009 21:29

Umm, they look lovely. May have to go forth and purchase.

Fabster · 07/11/2009 21:38

Will they suit me?

Size 14.
Good bum.
okay thighs.
huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge muffin top.

TwoToTango · 07/11/2009 21:51

thanks mejon
