Any natural(ish) blondes dyed their hair brown and it looked fab?

Don't know whats wrong with me as I have been blonde since the day my mummy pushed me into the world but I am fed up of it. My mother has said she will disown me if I dye my hair brown (well not quite but you get the picture) as she says I am blonde and that is that, I would look horrendous with brown hair but there is a little bit of me that would love to see how I felt as a brunette. My hair is more ashy/mousey with highlights now, nothing natural about it at all!

Anyone gone brown after being blonde forever and it suits you?

I did this when I couldn't keep up with highlights after having dc1. It did get compliments from other women, but dh admitted he much prefers it blonde. My mum reckoned it looks better blonde too so I ended up going back to highlights (naturally quite mousy now, sounds similar to you!). I have to say it felt really wierd being a brunette, I hadn't realised how much of my identity was wrapped up in being blonde

Lulumama · 05/11/2009 15:50

i'm not being polite ! if i did not think you were lovely looking, i'd say nowt

i'm thinking of going really red now the wedding is over. didn't want to have anything to radical before hand

we need a merseysiders meet up! what about the grapes in formby or the vincent for sushi and cokctails in town?

neenz · 05/11/2009 15:50

Ah, it's like a Sefton snog on here - I am in Formby

BitOfFun · 05/11/2009 15:52

Sounds good to me Lulu- when I've lost a stone and a half I'll be there like a shot...

Ivykaty44 · 05/11/2009 15:55

I have naturaly blonde hair and have dyed my hair pink - it was pretty is that any use?

Lulumama · 05/11/2009 16:17

course you do, you were neenztwinbeans?

BoF, i need to lose around 3 stone but i'm not staying at home until then

we should try and do something

would be nice, tried to arrange a southport meet last winter but it didn't happen.

neenz · 05/11/2009 16:45

Yes, used to be twinbeans .

I would be well up for a meet-up (see my other post on the 'I've got no friends and nobody likes me' thread )

my hair is dark blond, used to be almost white blond when i was younger and i have dyed my hair brown in the past, did so after dd was born (she's now 7) for about 4 years. my advice is to do it gradually, go for a light brown first, if you like that, go a bit darker next time. also, unless you really do want a redish colour, go for ash toned browns, colours with red in, as the red is the strongest pigment, the colour just goes redder and redder over time as it fades. i've also now gone back to blond, so it's pretty easy to go back if you change your mind.

neenz, i grew up in formby!

bonfirewithaheartofgold · 05/11/2009 16:59

my natural colour is fair, have dyed it any number of colours over the years, but my colouring's different to yours - paler/pinker with green eyes.

i've mostly been some kind of red - from very dark mahogany to pink, but decided a year or two back that i fancied going blonde for the first time in 10 years. spend ages growing the red out and was a passable strawberry blonde this time last week. but i get bored and i just don't think i'm cut out to be blonde so i had a load cut off, a heavy fringe put in and dyed it dark dark brown.

looks fab, no regrets, much prefer it, much edgier, less mumsy, shows off my eyes. have been this dark in the past so i knew it would look okay but was reassuring to have my hairdresser say she reckons i can get away with most colours, maybe a quirk of my colouring.

the look on people's faces is priceless though, because i made such a dramatic change.

fannybanjo · 05/11/2009 17:05

LOL at Sefton love in! We should definitely have a night out - although I live in Chester I can be the honorary member as I am originally from Maghull and have lived in Southport

bonfire - yes, you probably are one of those lucky people who get away with most colours, I'm jealous.

I think I am a blonde full stop, it may come and go in fashion but it is what suits me best. I don't think people would like me as a brunette.

bonfirewithaheartofgold · 05/11/2009 17:33

oh gawd i hope that didn't come across as blonde = mumsy just talking about on me. i was born wonky - suit most colours except my natural one.

Lulumama · 05/11/2009 18:53

i think we should have a meet around southport/formby, i am happy to have you all at lulu towers, although it is always messy and cold or we can go for dinner/drinks/ whatever ! i love meeting new people and would be lovely to see fanny again

fannybanjo · 05/11/2009 19:59

bonfire - of course it didn't come across as mumsy = all blondes!

Lulu - I will definitely attend a gathering of strangers!

neenz · 05/11/2009 20:53

Ooh er, I'd love to see fanny too .

The Grapes sounds perfect - 300 yrds from my house

Obviously happy to do Southport too - I am on your FB I think lulumama so you can always get in touch there.

Lulumama · 05/11/2009 21:24

great stuff !! perhaps we should start a thread.. yes, neenz you are! sometimes it takes me a while to remember who is who on FB & MN

BitOfFun · 05/11/2009 21:31

The Grapes is good for me- if I can hide if I recognize anyone from school

neenz · 05/11/2009 21:37

Unless the people you went to school with are under 20 you are unlikely to see them in the Grapes

Obviously we will fit in fine

BitOfFun · 05/11/2009 21:39
Grin
fannybanjo · 05/11/2009 22:17

Oh dear, the Grapes, I am afraid I am far too cool for there! Might bump into a footballer... Neil Ruddock perhaps!

Facebook, wtf is that? I am soooo behind with the times. I am afraid I don't have enough friends for facebook.

fannybanjo · 05/11/2009 22:18

Glad to see my hair thread has turned into a meet up!

bishboschone · 05/11/2009 22:18

I have blonde haor and had it dyed chocolate brown once. Everyone said I looked prettier blonde so I dyed it back

BitOfFun · 05/11/2009 23:06

We could go onto Shorrocks Hill afterwards! Oh, except gangsters burnt it down...

Lulumama · 06/11/2009 07:15

this is great, hope we can actually do it!

fannybanjo · 06/11/2009 08:52

How about meeting in Birkdale village or Southport?
