Missing my birkies!!!!

They are sooooo comfy . I have wide feet and really struggle to find equally comfy winter shoes and boots. What should I be wearing - are Uggs the only option?
TIA

wellies I switch from my birk sandals, to birk clogs, to wellies as the seasons change. (I've wide toes and a narrow heel - nightmare for shoes!).

glinda · 29/10/2009 20:34

Oh grief! Wellies!?!
Your feet sound like mine. Someone must have some ideas to help us. I spent today out shopping around town and my feet are killing me!

I've two boys under four with me all the time, except weekends when DH is around but then as DS1 says "mummy has three boys" so I don't go into town. We live in a village and there's really nothing to dress up for so I don't mind being stuck in wellies.

nearlybeans · 29/10/2009 20:39

Converse. Not as good as wellies, though

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/10/2009 20:40

still in my birkies
i am well 'ard

glinda · 29/10/2009 20:44

Respect to RBOTP!
I feel too old for converse and Uggs at 45. I can't wear the same shoes as my teenage daughter!

OP posts:
nearlybeans · 29/10/2009 22:44

And why not?

glinda · 30/10/2009 10:31

Teenage girls point and snigger!

They may have a point about the Uggs... But an appropriate pair of Cons? They are so mainstream - youth cannot possibly claim them as their own, can they...?

glinda · 30/10/2009 12:41

Hmm, but they are just plimsolls
...or I could give away my northern roots and call them sand shoes!!!!!

God I miss my Birkis. My feet are so hot in socks and shoes.

I wear Converse, Merrels or ballet pumps in the winter. I would much rather be wearing my Birki's though!

cocolepew · 30/10/2009 13:17

I'm (nearly) 41 and wear Converse with Birkinstock insoles.

Have you looked at the website? Birkinstock do shoes and boots, v £££££££ though.

glinda · 30/10/2009 13:48

What are the birki insoles like? Do they fit in many different shoes?

How about DMs? I have wide feet and arthritis and tend to wear DMs or wide-fitting Clarks shoes. Just bought a fab pair of w-f knee-high boots in Clarks at the weekend. Bliss!

Am wearing my birkenstocks as I type - using them as sliper substitutes around the house.

LaurieScaryCake · 30/10/2009 13:54

Why don't you just get Winter Birkies

like these

or these

vastingavay · 30/10/2009 14:03

Socks and Birkies.

glinda · 30/10/2009 14:06

Wails.... But I want to look like a girl... So sad my feet only fit mannish style shoes ...weeps with frustration.

Sorry that may sound ungrateful but DMs and clogs are just not my style and don't go with my wardrobe.

Link to the clarks boots please cakey??

I have just moved over into my Winter Birkies
too.

Amazon do them too!

cakeywakey · 30/10/2009 14:18

You can find their wide-fitting boot range here www.clarks.co.uk/find/SubBrand-is-k/ProductType-is-boots I've got the Kerry Trish boots in black

glinda · 30/10/2009 14:22

They look lovely!

cakeywakey · 30/10/2009 14:31

They are, they're fab.

Loving the idea of Birkie insoles Am off to do some investigation.

jamandjerusalem · 30/10/2009 14:59

I think Birki clogs and tights are a rather lovely style, particularly the felt ones.

I have the DM Neema boots which I wear all the time and love them.

There's also these lovely Plumo clog boots - I have the ones from last year which have wooden soles and no sheepy lining, and wear them with tights and dresses. They are fab.

BTW, no-one is too old for Converse - my dad is 70 and still wears them. Universal, IMO

cocolepew · 30/10/2009 15:09

The 3/4 birki insoles are best for shoes and Converse, I have the full ones in Fly boots.

glinda · 31/10/2009 11:26

Ok I have ordered the 3/4 berki insoles and a pair of Clarks shoes which look comfy but a bit school girly. I am hoping they will be good for work (reception teacher).
I suspect that I will return them as they probably won't fit and I am not sure what they will look like on me.
