Wide leg trousers

Montifer · 25/10/2009 16:41

Where can I find some nice ones?

Bootcut doesn't do anything for my ample hips and thighs.

I'm struggling to find what I want which is some mid grey / charcoal / black casual trews, not too dressy.

Ok H&M do them but they are long, too long for me and I'm 5'9.

Marks do them too, and helpfully categorise all their trews into depts so you should be able to find quite well.

I bought a pair of very flattering, forgiving thick jersey wide legs in navy recently from there and I love them.

Montifer · 25/10/2009 18:24

Thanks Cybil, flattering and forgiving sounds exactly what I'm after.
What sort of waistband do they have?

Tried M+S today but it was only quite a small branch so might brave a trip to the evil Trafford Centre one evening this week.

If they don't have something surely John Lewis will.

How about these?

or these?

CybilAviationAuthority · 25/10/2009 19:10

Mont they ahve one of those big wide elastic waistbands!! ha ha I am an old lady. but it's hidden and not ruched.

Montifer · 25/10/2009 19:28

Style - thanks for suggestions. Judging by the snot ridden (DS not mine!) of my current outfit, think dry clean only isn't an option at the mo.
Wallis looks a possibility, not sure if the pleats would be very flattering.

Cybil - elastic waistband sounds good. Can you do link?
I've had a look at the website and there are a couple of contenders from Per Una but yours sound better.

CybilAviationAuthority · 25/10/2009 19:34

why do marks ALWAYS insist on the model wearing patent court shoes with everything...

They look AWFUl here, as I knew they would...but mine are long and elegant and I suggest you try them on

CybilAviationAuthority · 25/10/2009 19:34

they are not bootcutty, that pic makes them look slimmer than they are

Stylelostinlabour · 25/10/2009 19:59

Eeek dry clean - sorry I didn't check that, will not be buying this end either what with a 5month, 4year old and muck magnet 6 year old!

chattermouse · 25/10/2009 20:40

These boden wide leg velvet trousers in black are incredible. They are super soft and strokable. They are ver stretchy so very comfortable too. Legs look long and slim and the cut is very forgiving on the old thighs. I LOVE mine. best fitting and most comfprtable widelegs i have ever owned. So much so i, to my boden shame, bought all 4 colours. They fit me perfectly and have had lots of compliments. Even dp said bloody hell, order all the colours, you look great. Use the 15% code to take them down to £58ish a pair. Prob is they are selling out fast so if interested you had better step on it! Give them i try, will be surprised if you don't really like them. Now, with no further ado, let me introduce you to them....

chattermouse · 25/10/2009 20:48

ok so link to black does not work, go to where y link takes you then click on black colour.

Montifer · 25/10/2009 21:02

Right, I have options

The Boden ones look lovely, what's the 15% code Chatter, that sounds good?

OP posts:
Montifer · 25/10/2009 21:03

Oh bugger, they're sold out in my size, grrr

Lastyearsmodel · 25/10/2009 21:15

I love a wide leg trouser - bootcut make me look knock-kneed - but they've been hard to find lately, except for in linen, which isn't very warm.

So I was chuffed to find some is Sainburys of all places. They're definitely casual, in a light-to-midweight cotton, and they're only £10 a pair. The cut looks very similar to the Boden ones, with the same slanted pockets - they usually gape on me, so I sew them shut. Black, brown and navy. Might do as a stopgap?

chattermouse · 25/10/2009 21:25

If you check the site every day, a couple of times a day, you'll prob find that your size comes back in cos someone will return a pair. That's how i got my lilac ones . In terms of which colour makes legs looks best, the black win i would say.

Montifer · 25/10/2009 21:40

Thanks Chatter, going to have to sacrifice some MN time, will have to book some time off work at this rate
I do fancy those in black, not sure of their sizes.
Used to be a 12 pre DS, but was alarmed how snug 14s were on my disastrous shopping trip today; reckon I'll have to go for a 14R, fingers crossed.

Where do I find the 15% code? I can only see a 10% one on the site.

LYM - my local Sainsbos only do children's clothes but I will send my sister on a reccy to her marvellous super Sainsburys. They sound like they might be just the ticket whilst I bite my nails and wait for the Boden returns.

Read this thread which lists lots of various boden codes and see which one best fits what you wnat to buy. A 15% code is listed on there, amongst others!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/promotional_codesbargains/837211-any-decent-boden-codes-aroun d-atm

reckon you'll get a pair if you check regularly. Prob 14R would be best be best as i would say that my size 10's are slighltly on the small side of a 10 iykwim. They are stretchy so should be comfortable. If you click on product details by the side of the item then it gives you the garment measurements so you can measure yourself and see which size is likely to fit best. Please report back if you get some. would like to know if you love them too!

Thanks Chatter, hope I'm telling you soon that I'm a convert.

Have been lurking obsessively on Boden site for the last couple of days and no joy on the wideleg velvet trews in my size so far.
Am off to the Trafford Centre for an wideleg searching mission.
Will have a look at M and S' offerings and will no doubt trawl John Lewis too.

Any more recommendations before I head off?

Will be taking my newly acquired wallet of 'colours' and will no doubt feel a bit of a twat browsing the racks with my colour palette

Montifer · 28/10/2009 09:14

Hoorah, just ordered my Boden trousers and found the M&S ones last nigth which fit really well, so thanks for all the help everyone

OP posts:
vacaloca · 28/10/2009 10:09

Ah well done. I was about to recommend Zara - I've got a few wide leg trousers from there and they're very comfortable and a good price.

chattermouse · 28/10/2009 11:52

Ooohh! Well done! See, obsession does pay! I really hope that they look great on you. Mine fit better than other pair of trousers (bar skinnies) i've ever owned. They are really flattering to thighs. Great news too that the m&s ones look good. Nice to see a happy shopper . Be sure to report back on the fit of the boden ones, i am crossing fingers for you!

Montifer · 28/10/2009 18:40

Thanks Chatter for the trousers and discount tip, will let you know if I love the trousers, is going to be a huge anti climax if I don't but I'm feeling confident

Now just need to dress my top half, but that's always so much easier.
