Fortunately my DD's v practical washable nursery coat still fits her so I am spending this year's budget on a smart coat for her. I was after something reasonably classic, fitted, buttons, plain... any suggestions and can't seem to find much other than Trotters which is uber-traditional... any ideas are welcome

HappyCat - Zara have the loveliest girls' coats at the moments. Nice plain, slightly trad wool ones in navy, grey, beige or pale pink. 'i was so thrilled to see them after all the naff shiny parkas everywhere else. dd3 loves her grey one.

I don't know if this is the sort of thing you are looking for, but I have this lovely navy coat with velvet trim www.childrensalon.com/product_info.php?cPath=80_303&page=2&products_id=12054.
(Looks even better teamed with a Russian faux fur hat in cream - just waiting for a cold spell now).
