Opinions please on UGG cardy boots - (naffness or otherwise, and sizing)...

I saw these in a magazine the other day and for some unfathomable reason quite liked them. I have, until now, hated Ugg boots and never seen the point of them. I am unsure why I like these, but I do.

Other opinions welcome as I feel I need some external guidance here!

If I do finally succomb, what is the sizing like?

(BTW I hate the turned down look, but think they could work in the full length mode.)

A friend has them in black
I quite like them (but I have very odd taste)

Not sure of the sizing.

DorotheaPlentighoul · 19/10/2009 18:40

They are the sullen teens' footwear of choice round these parts. I would therefore say don't do it.

Rosa · 19/10/2009 18:59

They remind me of grandpa slippers just higher..Sorry !

mamalovesmojitos · 19/10/2009 19:02

i love them, but would be afraid that they would slouch after a while.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 19:06

I love mine and they are the comfiest footwear I own.
On the sizing, mine came up small.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 19:07

Btw I hate all other styles of ugg boots too.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 19:09

You can buy them online for far less than £125. I paid under £70 for mine from a US website (can't remember the name of it, twas last year). They're the genuine article.

Tidey · 19/10/2009 19:12

Is there any particulat benefit to buying real Ugg boots? do they replace them if they break, like those sunglasses that were popular a few years ago? Cos, I've seen these in Stead and Simpson for about £30 and they look exactly the same to me. Does one need to prove shoe provenance for any reason?

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 19:16

The cheap fakes don';t last five minutes. I was talking to someone about this on Friday and she'd got hers from Barratts. They looked terrible and were only a few months old. Mine are a year old and still look new.

Tidey · 19/10/2009 19:20

Ahh, fair enough then, thanks LyraSilvertongue. Like MLM, I too would be concerned that they'd go all saggy and stretched. Weirdly enough though, I quite like the way they look folded down, but I don't think I could really pull that look off.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 19:22

Mine aren't saggy or stretched. They look great with skinny jeans or skirts with tights. Not so good on bare legs and they don't stay up without something to cling to.

snowmummy · 19/10/2009 19:42

For some reason I like them too. Like you, I'm worried there a bit naff though.

VictoriousSponge · 19/10/2009 19:43

naff and vile

Supercherry · 19/10/2009 19:50

They're nice, very cosy and comfy for the winter.

ScaryFucker · 19/10/2009 19:51

nice slippers

snowmummy · 19/10/2009 20:14

Oops spelling I meant

they're

Imisssleeping · 19/10/2009 20:19

You will look like an uber chav.

confuseddoiordonti · 19/10/2009 20:27

I have some and, while I do like them, I don't wear them as much as I thought I would. Also, while they look okay in the mirror, looking down on them when I have them on they look very baggy (on the foot part rather than the leg part, I know they are meant to be baggy on the leg part.)
They are also not great if you walk loads, which I do, as they are very flat. However, this is obviously not an issue if you are more of a driver than a walker...

moondog · 19/10/2009 22:13

Fucking hideous.
Rememeber to accessorize with muffin top, love bites and arse antlers. Oh, and trowel on the foundation.
Voila!

Ewe · 19/10/2009 22:29

They are incredibly chavvy around here. My little sister (17) has two pairs and she is going through a big chav phase...

Verdict: Naff.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/10/2009 23:20

They're not chavvy where I live.
I love my cardi Uggs and won't hear a word said against them.

paddingtonbear1 · 19/10/2009 23:31

I like some styles of UGG boots, but not the cardy ones. Not sure why, but I just think they look naff!

ninagleams · 19/10/2009 23:32

Chav is basically another word for lower class isn't it? Well I'm not enough of a snob to reject something because it looks 'lower class' so go for it! I love them and I'm going to ask for some for Christmas!

Sammy74 · 20/10/2009 10:05

I definitely depends on what you wear with them. I am not a 'chav' in the slightest but wear mine almost every day in this weather.

I think they look great with skinny jeans, plain t-shirt and long belted cardie. Very stylish!
