If you think that you're spending too much time and money on your clothes, or even just thinking about/ lusting after certain items to the detriment of your health/ happiness/ bank balance/ storage locker, sign up here. Our mutual purpose is to dissuade one another from buying things we like/ love but don't need. To this end, you can post links to items here and we will tell you why you shouldn't buy them.

Here are my personal goals:

To free up some space in my wardrobe by having a big eBay session

To get my retail kicks buying Xmas pressies (ones for myself don't count)

To pay off credit card this side of new year

To lose pounds from my body, not my wallet, and to obsess about it to the extent that I have no brain space left for fashion (I am an all or nothing kind of girl)

Will aim this week to actually set up an ebay account and put at least a few bits on there.

Also want to lose that last half a stone and really, really just don't 'need' any new clothes this side of christmas.

Yes - I have unworn items still in my wardrobe and (other than a dusty pink cardigan that I am still nowhere nearer to finding) I must not buy anything else but must try to use my existing stuff in new ways.

Maybe this thread could be a: 'I have got such-and-such an unworn item - how do you suggest I wear it?' thing too?

that's a brilliant idea janeite, my hot pink DKNY top was saved from eBay by asking the wise S&B brigade how I should wear it. Let's do that.

I'm all for streamlining wardrobes. I am trying very hard to THINK before buying now.

LOL Choogirl. Yes, holiday bits are exempt from dis-abling ... likewise my Toast dress, as long as I buy before midnight.

Okay - I will start:

A dark blue silk shift dress ress, with short sleeves and a slash-type neck, just above the knee. If I'm honest, it makes me look shapeless and could do with maybe belting (but I am short waisted) or soemthing worn over it to create a v-type neck (nork issues).

Any ideas? Oh - and I'd like to wear it for work, not for a night out because I hardly go anywhere!

Could I recommend swishing ? Apart from it doesn't create space in your wardrobe.

Local do gooders/hippies organised one in my town - took 10 items, swapped for raffle tickets, then following a pint a smash and grab followed. I took a load of old work jackets, black trousers stuff and came home with a mix of colourful clothes that I would never have bought, inc a silk scarf and velvet jacket. There was a complete mix of labels. It was weird when you saw someone else try something on, that you'd rejected on a hanger cos it was new look or sacklike and realise maybe it wasn;t...

Only downside is small town and seeeing people you know in your old stuff - but no worse than charity shop ?

Me too.Like Janeite's idea of wearing usual stuff in new ways..
Regularly ebay unwanted items though,should have done some last week but was put off buy threatened postal strike..

janeite - how about with a long cardi over the top, worn open but loosely belted? enough to give you some breast coverage/ V-shaping and also to define your waist without pulling you all in too much? Would also take the 'dressy' edge off it - silk sounds quite glam for work - and make it more workday-friendly? (have been working for myself 5 years now so forgive me if I am clueless about what constitutes normal workplace attire)

That is a good idea. Do you think pale grey might be okay? I often wear silk because it's not so sweaty when in hot classrooms! Tights? Footwear?
